Robbie Robertson Any fans of this guy's solo stuff?. I just just picked up his self titled solo album on a hunch that it was quite similar to Peter Gabriel's album So from around the same time, and was very pleasently surprised, it's a great little album! superb duets with Peter Gabriel and U2. Is this his best album or has he got some other hidden gems?
We're here, might as well get into it.

I have a friend that ADORES this man and everything The Band/Hawks related. You had me scared for a sec. I thought you were gonna say he was dead! So soon after Levon Helm I didn't think I could break the news to her.
That said , glad you dig him. He's not my cup of tea, but he's def talented and a greatly underrated influence.

It's funny, i was never a huge fan of The Band, although i liked The Last Waltz, most of their stuff was a bit too much on the country side for me. His solo stuff seems more poppy and atmospheric (obvious Daniel Lanios influence in there), i'm digging it. Picked up his second solo album called Storyville as well, it's quite a bit mellower, but still has a similar feel, probably a bit more of a night time album. I bought this when it came out and was underwhelmed. I like What About Now?, though. Now we know why Levon, Rick and Richard did all the singing.
