Whatever happened to Digable Planets?

How come they fell off so quick?

They reunited around 2005, and have been touring, but haven't released anything so far. They were said to be recording around 2008, but Ladybug suddenly quit the group in 2009, no explanation given. They had a Myspace page at the time. Ladybug released a solo album. Butterfly released a record with his other group Shabazz Palaces. Doodlebug and Butterfly continued to perform occassionally without Ladybug Mecca. But I haven't heard anything about the group lately.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is a recent Shabazz Palaces song. Butterfly is wearing the necklace and black t-shirt.

This interview with Doodlebug is from May 2012. The 2nd video is a song from one of his mixtapes.

This song with Ladybug came out a few months ago:

Named after insects is not a good idea if you're a rapper.

Unless you're the Killer Bees. lol

I think they were more closer to a PM Dawn kind of hippy vibe, but more afrocentric, than a regular rap group would be. And they rapped with a soft vocal style, instead of yelling.

Were they a duo, or did they have someone in Ladybug's place?

I think her parents were from Brazil, but don't know if Ladybug is from there herself.

Not too long ago, Cool Like That was used in a commercial for Tide or something.

Do this.

I read the interview in Wax Poetics & it piqued my interest (found it interesting that they landed a deal with SubPop of all labels).

Took me a while to "get it" through my antiquated hip-hop head (this is some esoteric shit)....but ended up really diggin this:
