Is it too soon to declare this my album of the year?

I haven’t yet. Their site was down when the news got to me about the release, and I was ready to turn in for the night before it came back up.
I was planning on buying it today, but I see that at this point they only seem to be selling the download. I’m likely going to wait until the physical release is for sale. Loveless was my favourite record for many years, & while music is pretty much dead to me now I’m still very interested in hearing this. & I’m happy to see that the org’s biggest music snob’s impressions are so positive.
Edit - I didn't read their options very well - the cd/download option is there for purchase, & I'll buy it when I get home this afternoon. [Edited 2/3/13 5:45am]

I most likely would not have downloaded the album either if the digital files weren't free with the purchase of a physical copy.
As for its snob appeal, I will admit it's not in the same league as Scud Mountain Boys or Pernice Brothers but I'm guessing you will like it too if you loved Loveless.

I didn't buy it. I blanched a little at the price ($27 with shipping in), so I'm going to wait & see if this makes its way to any of the large online retailers. What's a few more weeks when you've waited 22 years, right? I did listen to a few of the tracks yesterday & quite liked them. They sounded like what you would expect from an mbv record at this point - not revelatory, maybe, but very nice to have that sound again.

I've listened to the album a few times since the initial euphoria of hearing new My Bloody Valentine music for the first time in over two decades. The first track sounds like generic MBV to me and the album doesn't get interesting until 1/3 of the way into the second track where the melody starts rolling over onto itself. It all culminates in the everything but the kitchen sink cacophony of the "wonder 2". Here's my more tempered rating for each track:
1. she found now - 2.5/5
2. only tomorrow - 3.5/5
3. who sees you - 4/5
4. is this and yes - 4/5
5. if i am - 4.5/5
6. new you - 3/5
7. in another way - 4/5
8. nothing is - 2.5/5
9. wonder 2 - 4.5/5
This gives the album an avearge of 3.6/5. There was no immediate and lasting magic like "Only Shallow" or "Honey Power", but perhaps after more listens it could grow on me to the point where album of the year is a possibility.

Vinyl copy arrived in the mail last week. Nice gatefold with slot for the CD.

I still haven't picked up the album, but I see it is now being carried by some of the online retailers, so I'm probably going to order a copy shortly. I did finally sit down and listen to all the tracks last night through youtube, and really enjoyed it. I don't have the titles down yet, but I remember thinking either track 4 or 5 was a stand-out. It seemed to be missing a knock-out moment, something like the way to here knows when made me feel all woozy and seasick, but maybe that will come with a proper listen on a good set of headphones.

I feel the same way about the album having no killer track. The textures are often beautiful, but nothing makes me swoon like the older songs I mentioned.

I love it - it's brilliant - but i'm annoyed that the vinyl edition still hasn't arrived. * * *
