I feel you. I took my family to see Peter Frampton a few years ago, and needless to say he played a lot of guitar.
After it was over I asked my 14-year-old son how he liked it and he said, "It needed more word singing and less guitar playing". | |

Virtuoso artists' shows are virtual sausage fests that consist of other guitarists (mainly) or guitar enthusiasts who aspire to be where said guitarist is. That's not a bad thing, per se; its just kinda what the crowds usually consist of. Usually the only women there are a SMALL handful of female guitarists and the girlfriends/wives of audience type #1. Vai has more flare in his show than Satraini but if you are into guitarists, both are dazzling displays of talent. I'd also recommend Allan Holdsworth and Greg Howe if you can catch them. When I think "shredder" guitarists, they generally don't appeal to me. For the most part, what comes to mind are players with weak compositions that are excuses to play a ton of notes over. An analogy could be a person that talks incessantly about nothing and never takes a breath, never shuts up.
