Yes that's why I love her but that's also one reason some people can't get into her music because her voice isnt the best. She's most def an artist in the same sense as Erykah, they arent the best singers but through their passion for their artistry they bring something new. Kelis does have a very average voice but I think she should have worked on it a bit more and she would have sounded better, but I wouldn't have wanted that because I love that raw voice she has.

I actually think Erykah is a better singer than Kelis.

I love Kelis and I absolutely love Erykah. I think Erykah is a better singer than Kelis as well.

Kelis has a average voice but like many have said, she is an artist. She is entertaining, creative and she takes risk with her music and image which is why we love her. She is criminally underrated.

Kelis is awesome. As a singer I'd give her an 8 out of 10. She's not going to pull a Whitney Houston vocal off but her material is hers and hers alone! I can't imagine any female singers trying to cover a Kelis track and pulling it off.

Absolutely love her! I really like her voice. It's subtle and distinctive. She's the bomb!

And i like as mentioned that she takes risks... which is why she hasn't had a top 40 in a long time but she doesn't need them

I would give her a 4/10. Her song choices suck too. They make her look cheap.

Not very high at all. She had some funky songs, I liked them, but as a true vocalist, no. She comes up with different concepts and has great production though.

I'd say below average, well maybe average considering what's passing in the the industry today. Her voice wouldn't get no play back in the day. I also think Badu is a better singer than Kelis. I think she came along at the right time. Being good looking helps her too.

Badu and Kelis are different type of singers, but I would say that Badu is a better singer than Kelis. However I dont think she became famous based on her looks, when she came on the scene - she wasn't seen as a sexy chick (that came afterwards, when she released Milkshake ) but rather kinda rebellious and angry. That's how her ex husband described her too, "who's this angry chick on tv".
