Favorite Frank Zappa Album?

Mine is Zoot Allures, simply genius! I'm loving a lot of his albums so far. I just got into him about a few weeks ago.

Joe's Garage is great too, so is Over-nite sensation, Freak Out!, Burnt weenie sandwich, uncle meat... he is just great! And his guitar work... there's no describing it lol, I love it.

EDIT Goddangit i put it in the wrong forum mad , could a mod move it for me? This is what happens with no sleep for 2 days... ugh lol.

er

My first was Sheik Yerbouti but I also like Joe's Garage a lot and Hot Rats when I'm in the right mood for it because it's not the easiest one to listen to.
Bytheway, something I've always wondered about: has Zappa ever said anything about Prince, whether he likes him or not? As far as I know Prince never mentioned Zappa, unless you think "serve it up, Frankie!" on 2Nigs...is about him.
See? There IS a way to put this into the Prince forum! wink

I don't remember any exact quotes, but:

During the whole PMRC hearings thing, Frank went on one of those point/couterpoint type of shows (don't remember which one without digging out the discs) to debate music lyrics. IIRC, he mentioned something along the lines that he didn't listen to Prince's music.

Maybe I will dig out the discs... I'm curious now. wink

I'm really curious too. It would have been amazing (maybe apocalyptic) if those two played together... too late now though sad

From Crossfire 3/28/86:

Re: incest in Sister by Prince (4-5 minutes in)

"He's got the right to sing it. He's got the right to say it. And I've got the right to not buy it."

found it online too, check it out here:

Zappa was a genius. Not just in the studio, but also in speaking against fascism. Everyone should watch this video. His composure and ability to remain calm and logical in the face of maddening political pundits is fascinating.

I have another one from '87 (that I don't see on youtube). Watching it next, stay tuned..

Probably Hot Rats, Waka/Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo. Technically it is not a Frank Zappa album but I would also include King Kong by Jean-Luc Ponty (much of the album was written and produced by Zappa and he is featured on a couple of tracks).

The other episode of Crossfire with Frank Zappa that I have (6/13/87) doesn't mention Prince. The focus is on heavy metal music & George Michael's I Want Your Sex.

He was interrupted, what he said was,

""He's got the right to sing it. He's got the right to say it. And I've got the right to not buy it or..."

I assume he would have concluded the sentence with something like "buy it if I want to buy it" etc.

Damn, Zappa had some great composure... If I were him, that one motherfuc K er would have been dead. If he were alive today, I wonder what he'd think of the government...
