R.E.M - RECOVERING My Religion

This is pretty trippy.

There's a guy digitally manipulating songs that are in a minor key, into a major key.

So here's REM's "Losing My Religion" reworked from minor to major. It shouldn't work at all, but it does!!! It's a happy song now lol smile

Impressive work, but.... I rather hate it. confused

I would like to see this done on other songs, though.

Whoa. This is a brilliant idea. I'm not even a huge REM fan, but I agree with the person on the Vimeo comments who said it made them feel off balance. I listened to the original immediately afterward, and it was like being tilted back upright and feeling my feet kind of sink into the earth again. (Hopefully that doesn't make it sound like I do a lot of drugs...)

Anyhow, I vote they do Mad World next. lol

And I see all of your creations as one perfect complex

hah! amzing smile

maybe a silly technical queston but... how you do this? can you achieve this just from the CD alone or do you need the master tape with seperate instrumental tracks? or is it even some simple software converter working in real time? if yes, then I want an App for that on my iPhone so I can scale any song in the library woot!

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

sampling certain sections of the song with the the G major chord and using elastic audio to transpose it to A instead of Am etc

then superimposing an acapella vocal ontop of the work.

It'll work because of the modalities of the melody, certain nonharmonic tones will shift into harmonic tones, and vice versa.

pretty cool though
