Seriously. This guy doesnt get the credit he's due.

If he wasnt for him the modern day hip hop, RandB, dance, and pop music wouldent be the same. Single handedly guided an army of talented muscians in Funkadelic-Parliament. From Prince to Rick James, Red Hot Chillie Peppers, Talking Heads, and billions more all copied his sound or sampled it. Was the first to really associate bassy tracks with the sexyness.

Seriously what the fuck?

woof! www.flashlight2013.com we are trying to change that and get Dr. Clinton his credit.....and his copyrights back! thanks for the post.

^ Agreed but they are not always going on about it or showing themselves smoking shit on videos etc....most of his songs are quite openly about drugs and are a bit crude. It would probably be more acceptable /or add to his popularity if he had the looks of someone like Prince too.

Maybe it's also because he doesn't take himself too seriously either, although that is no bad thing, Props to the man!

[Edited 1/21/13 11:15am]

Well to be honest most of his songs arent about drugs at all. Nearly none, I cant think of one single song that focuses just on drugs or endoreses it.

Is Parliament-Funkadelic days were about characters, fictional situation, and having fun. Even had political messages. And also UFO's and extraterrestrial life.

Now, if theres one constant reoccuring theme through out all of his music he's produced is sexual innuedo and fun. But its not in a crude manner most of the time. Nothing near what you hear in rap and what not and its pretty clever.

His whole theme is fun and dance. Thats why his music style caught on and is so popular, theyre the most dancible form of sound. Thats why it took off and is popular in all forms of in tons of music. Even if it isnt his dance sound, his bassy lows are frequented in RandB and tons of places, the more rock and roll funk guitar sound/solos is beyond over used as well.

Thats an extroindarily amount of people copying a form of sound that hasnt even been around that long, and hasnt shown any sign of slowing down.

Wait, all of that garbage is his fault? George Clinton must die!

Well its not just modern day as in today, its anything within the past 30 years or so. Some of our favorite artists and well known achievers wouldnt be where they are without his sound.

/highfives

I think he feels he doesnt get the props he deserves, which im willing to bet is also why he's part of being copy right activist.

Though he does get recognition, especially for his funk days. Because that entire funk popular funk movement in the stearotypical sense was defined by him and his group. The whole 'cool as hell' attitude, crazy gear, and what not.

When you look at all the success behind his influence its pretty boggling (not to say those guys arent talented). Michael Jacksons Thriller, Prince's rock-funk and sex filled everything, Daft Punk's Discovery, D'Angelo's Voodoo, Dr. Dre's Chronic, EPMD, his influence on the 80s with Atomic Dog going solo, its pretty nuts. He should be a household name.

But yeah, think I'm done now.

www.flashlight2013.com is a good site to support as stated above.

Whether it's true or not, that is the impression that the casual fan or observer gets of him and his music.....that it's kind of stoner music...... i'm not saying it's right just how it seems to be perceived....

He is considered the God Of Funk by me! I love him, but agree he doesn't get enough props in general.

Bless George and his P-Funk, he is from another planet!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I don't know, of all the PFunk players, George is the only name that the general public knows (with the possible exception of Bootsy)

I think he has plenty of respect, fame, and recognition especially considering he has not really have a lot of mainstream hits and that he is not a performer in the same way James Brown, Prince, etc. are

Miles

I do think Clinton and the P-Funk gang are under-appreciated as songwriters, especially on the Westbound Funkadelic albums.

There are some great, proper songs on those, not just cool jams with cool lyrics about gettin' down, on albums like Free Your Mind, America Eats Its Young and Cosmic Slop, eg -

March to the Witch's Castle (Possibly the saddest P-Funk song of all)

Cosmic Slop (a truly great song imo, it takes Papa Was a Rolling Stone even further into the darkness)

If You Don't Like the Effects, Don't Produce the Cause

Biological Speculation

Wake Up

I'll Stay

Eulogy and Light

I would include Maggot Brain the song, but it's more Eddie Hazel's guitar playing than the actual words that have the effect.

Yes, I absolutely think Funkadelic remains an undicovered gem to most of the world.

It's odd that Parliament is bigger when, like you say, Funkedelic is more song-oriented and accessible in some ways.

I loved the lyrics in the entire America Eats Its Young album and of course March to the Witch's Castle from Cosmic Slop is mind blowing to me. The music composition is so chilling...

George himself said Parliament was more party-oriented than Funkadelic were. Funkadelic was the more serious side of Parliament. People paid more attention to The Mothership Connection than, say, I Got a Thang for instance.
