Anyone Like Fela Kuti? The nigerain multi-instrumentalist was a huge pioner in the jazz industry as well as Afrobeat.
He is one of my favorite musicians/composers check out his stuff
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Love Fela!
The release with ITT/ Sorrow Tears And Blood is my favorite of the ones I know, though Zombie is a killer too.
His son Femi had a bad band that's touring the US right now - go see 'em if you have the chance.

Someone I knew put me on to it a while back. Good stuff.
Apparently he was married to ALL the backing singers.

Baba 70. Mr Black President Abami eda (a man like no other) On the day fela was buried a public holiday like no other declared itself in Lagos. People still went to work, but everywhere you went people had their radios on listening to Fela songs, even my bank manager!
In a city notorious for its traffic congestion people stayed the fuck of the roads and allowed the funeral procession to travel at walking pace from one end of Lagos to the other, and they came out to line the roads and cheer. No police permits applied for, and the 'ruling' army twats shut the fuck up like nothing was happening. Baba we miss you still. Gbedu for life!

yup. all 27 of them.
I have some Nigerian friends that have hung out at his infamous club, "The Shrine". The stories are the stuff rock & roll legend is made of.

LOVE Fela!!! He's proof of the power of one person and the power of music. I'd heard about him and a few of his songs but until I saw Fela in NY in 2010 and bought the 3disc set they were selling at the show, I was pretty uninitiated. (i know compared to his actual albums, i'm still unintiated!) He deserves all the props he gets and more! Incendiary lyrics, groove heavy compositions! Zombie is a favorite!
