The Jacksons albums: from best to worst

Okay, exactly a year ago, it was a battle of Destiny and Triumph (Triumph won08-)
Now the number of participants has expanded ... I finally listened to each album in full (some - not just once, many times, to be honest lol )

if with Triumph and Destiny all clear ... it is their top 2, but what about the others?

For me:

1. Triumph 9/10 (the album is really good, I did notice that I prefer it to Off the wall)
2. Destiny 8/10 (some of the best songs for the band ever: Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body)
3. The Jacksons 7/10 (good collection of decent songs, but did not have classic tracks)
4. Goin 'Places 6/10 (it was the last album I listened to... this album usually does not get enough respect, but it`s not bad)

5. Victory 4/10 (a classic example of the album, which is recorded on need .... although I like State of shock ... my dad (not the biggest MJ fan lol ) loves it too).

Opinions... wink

=1. Destiny

=1. Triumph

3. Goin' Places

4. The Jacksons

5. Victory

6. 2300 Jackson Street - I only ever play Art of Madness from this set

Then I suppose there's the Live album which is one of my most played, but I can't rank it with the studio albums.

1. Triumph

2. Destiny

3. Goin' Places

4. The Jacksons

5. Victory

Victory shouldn't even be considered a "Jackson's" album, since it was more like a Jackson brothers compilation album, as opposed to an actual group album. I think Michael is a genius, but to this day, I cannnot understand "Be Not Always." That is just one of those songs that make me scratch my head and say "WTF???"

I love The Jacksons so much! I love most of these albums except for two obvious ones. I think the Jacksons were very underrated, I think that Destiny and Triumph are up there with the best of MJ's solo albums.

1. Destiny

2. Triumph (this one may be better than Destiny but I just love Destiny more)

3. The Jacksons (underrated)

4. Goin' Places (underrated as well, I love these both equally but think The Jacksons is a little better)

5. Victory (some good tracks, a few underrated cuts, but overall this album isn't a good product considering its by The Jacksons)

6. 2300 Jackson Street (this isn't fair as I haven't heard the full album yet, but even the album's "highlights" that I've heard don't interest me much)

I used to always think it would be cool if Michael would have stayed with the group and done albums with them in between his solo albums like he did with Off The Wall/Triumph. But then I'm always reminded of Victory lol

It's a shame that MJ's brothers kind of didn't care about music but rather the fame and fortune that came along with it so they just got lost once MJ left. They made such great music.

Someone should do a thread on the later Jackson 5 albums or maybe Jackson 5 albums in general, I still think that some of those later J5 albums (Dancing Machine, G.I.T.) are some of the most underrated albums I've heard. Also would be nice to rank MJ's solo albums at Motown which were pretty awesome also. I think I'm the only one who ranks Forever, Michael and Farewell My Summer Love with any Jacksons records.

Oh well that sucks, it makes it harder to read about specific topics like a song or album or something instead of having posts about his influence on fashion, dance, music videos, and also his family drama and other things together.

I agree but don't they just lock the threads. At least we can discuss J5 or The Jacksons on here, I just find it odd since MJ is the only non-Prince artist with that kind of rule on this site.

It's very close between the top 2; both are excellent albums. There are quite a few J5 albums I'd slot in before The Jacksons, but it does have my all-time favorite Jackson-related song, "Show You the Way to Go."

but before the death of MJ there were 100 parts of other topic - Let's Talk Michael Jackson razz

so I did not realize how long the practice has arisen in regard to MJ (discuss everything about him in isolation and in a pile), but that was looooooooong ago. I think this is unfair. Much more democratic it would limit the amount of treads produced by a week and delete topics that exceed this limit.

Yea I agree with that to, I understand why they did it but I dont think their should be a sticky either because if that is the case there should be ALOT of stickies of other artists that get mostly talked about here.

Its unfair that MJ is singled out seperately.

I think the threads get locked after someone reports them. The mods don't really seem to pay any attention otherwise, as the time varies in when they get shut down. There's usually a message saying "reported thread" or something. I never go in the sticky, it doesn't interest me. If I want to see some general stuff, I might as well go to MJJC. wink

it's you, but if a person is banned .... you know, there is nothing easier than to be banned by MJ - forums ... lol

Isolate only one MJ from general discussion looks really weird. I hate this sticky.

They must have done something to get banned like starting fights or constantly putting down the Jackson family members. I've never had any problem over there.

Oh, I don`t know, I never attended MJJC
But I was banned from European forum simply because dont believe he's the biological father of Prince and Paris...and asked: human biology is not a compulsory subject in school anymore? lol
after that I don`t visit his fan sites for over a year at all

But no matter ... I'm interested to see your list, and preferably with comments ... I know you're an expert in Jackson 5/The Jacksons wink

1. Triumph

2. Destiny

3. Victory

4. 2300 Jackson Street

5. Goin' Places

6. The Jacksons

As I've said before, the secret to Victory is to NOT listen to it like it's an album by The Jacksons. If you instead just consider it a compilation album put together by Michael and his brothers to capitalise off of Michael's success (which is EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS lol ) it comes off a lot better. It does not have quite the same "flow" as the other albums, but it has a few good songs.

I can't belive I forgot an album edit...

2300 Jackson Street

Victory

Triumph

Destiny.........

the first 2 (bleh with a few exceptions)

Yes folks, I love "2300 Jackson street". Love the Zane Giles tracks, the Omartian tracks and the Teddy Riley tracks. Even Jermaine's "Maria" is blessed with a hot harmonica solo and phat ass drums. Go ahead and hate LOL, you got to be a BIG fan of late 80's pop/rnb to like that album.

Really surprised "Private affair" was not a hit on adult contemporary. CBS should of sent out that one. Instead "Art of madness", which sounded abit dated even at the time unsurprisenly bombed and that was the end of the album LOL. Wrong single choice and then some...

..."She" could of been sent to rnb stations too. That song is still hot as hell with a killer bridge...

Considering "Private affair" got covered twice in the space of about 2 years shows the song was just itching to be a hit.....

It does sound more like a Jermaine solo track, particually as producer Omartian did some work with him at Arista, but Jermaine rarely sounded better though and its beautifully produced....

Play It Up and She would have been good single choices.

Yeah, the Zane Giles tracks are somewhat overproduced, but beneath the gloss, theres some decent slabs of funky rnb/pop. "Play it up" has some great horns similar to the "bad" album and a nice percussion breakdown, and also some great real bass. Unfortunately alot of the instrumentation is buried beneath the overdubs, but if you listen carefully, theres some neat stuff.

Though not single worthy, "Midnight rendevouz" is decent filler too, with some nice "talking" at the start of the song, and again, very high in the mix drum programming, which suits me to a tee. The bridge is great, with a barely audible funky guitar effect yet again, unfortunately, buried in the mix. The Jacksons and Atlanta Zane Giles guilty again of overproducing. The song isn't as much fun as "play it up", but again, has some nice things going for it.
