How would you rate Darryl Hall as a singer? I think he is one of the best blue eyed soul singers and just one of the best, period "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

He's an excellent singer.
What's amazing to me is how well his voice has hold up. When he has all those other musicians in their 50s and 60s as quests in his show (live from Daryl's house) their voices are far from being in as great condition.
He looks 10-20 years younger than what he is as well. Isn't he the type of a man every divorced woman in his age bracket would like to date?

Hall's, OK. Above average, I guess.

Really, Ms Trina-you think he's just Ok? How come? Just because you get old-does that mean your voice automatically declines? [Edited 1/13/13 6:28am] "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Hall needs to get over himself, he's above average, I guess. There are a lot of males singers that come to mind who can sing their asses off, Hall has never come to mind. Now that I've thought about it a minute, he still wouldn't be mentioned. Hall's OK, he ain't nothin' to write home about. But that's my point of view, others hear something different, that's cool too.

His show just proves that he can sing just about any song. In many cases he performs the melodies better than the guests when they do their own songs. I think he's great because he's a true professional, not because the voice would sound somehow extraordinary. He's pretty vanilla if you were to judge the character of his voice.

I can't think of any other contemporary male Pop singer of today who has the power & richness Darryl's voice had (has).

Dude, Daryl did that interview, what 30 years ago? I can't still hold him to that. I mean, come on. To me, Daryl's voice is way above average-I have some issues with it, but I think it is damn good. And he is an amazing song writer "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Kit, thanks, but Laura is the one that came up with that gem! "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Daryl Hall is still good. But I rank Michael McDonald, Rick Ashley, & George Michael higher.

no way am I putting astley above Darryl "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Micheal has a distinct sound, a vocal affectation. Daryl grew up listening to soul singers of the 50's and 60's. He is a huge fan of the Tempations and early Doo Wop. Real singers that can sing accapella. I think D can out-sing George!!
This has to be two of Daryl's best vocals!

Along with being a genuinely great guy and an all around talented musician, John Oates can add modesty to his list of virtues.
John once told me that he considered himself lucky as “I’m probably the highest paid background singer and rhythm guitar player there is”. What he neglected to acknowledge is that he’s also been an integral writing and performing component of the best selling duo in history. This release is stacked with great musicians including another all-around great talented guy, H&O bassist T-Bone Wolk.
The title track laced with Steve Cropper guitar work is a soul-based catchy song worthy of asingle release. The Good Son is a Tom Petty style tune that adds a blast of the good old H&O production values. Ghost Town is a bluesy offering, complete with eerie Jed Leiber Hammond organ, cool John Popper harp, and great Bela Fleck guitar-like banjo work, lending a totally New Orleans feel. Sending Me Angels is a good soul reaching gospel-influenced ballad. Ravens is just a really nice flowing ballad, as is the closing track Circle Of Three. Carved In Stone is a rocking gospel sound song worthy of contemporary Christian/country singer Russ Taff, complete with the answering vocals of Bonnie and Bekka Bramlett. When John steps on his own exposing his solo voice, what he dishes out is really damn good and soulful. JO also has the range to basically do any material well. Yes, John is one of those dudes that could have done fine on his own, but fortunately found the right talented accomplice/cohort to successfully complement his talents to hit their collective stride. A complement to the song selection on this release is that the material is fresh sounding, and some of these songs could be successful and relevant releases today by artists like Coldplay and Maroon 5. The final word (words) is, really, really good. Well-done John! Words By: RME

No real problem with Daryl's voice doing his own material. "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Oh don't you me! I've always ranked Michael & Rick high on my list of male blue-eyed soul vocalists. Baritones are deeper than Tenors, remember?!?

alot of people forget that A great voice isnt in the strength its knowing what to do with it, to me Beyonce and Aguilera have powerful voices but they bore the shit out of me cause they are clueless as singers, Beyonce has about as much soul as Clay Aiken at the Apollo. I think the American Idol generation KILLED singers, and focused on being a booming voice, similar to what Sam Harris would do on star search but this AI thing is widespread because there is money in American idol know one really was making it off star search in terms of the show itself doing the $$$ backing.
As for Daryl hes got soul, he knows soul, but i hate the term blue eyed soul and he does too, big time. I think he can nail alot of songs that are classic rb songs, and of course all of his material.
As for his comments, i dont really see where he was too far off, "the beatles of his genereation" well maybe a bit overblown, but in terms of charting and selling records at that span of time, you couldnt touch them, they still are the most successful duo of all time. And i think people confuse those days with THESE DAYS, sorry but cats back then like Elton and Billy Joel etc..were coming up with masterpieces every year, and touring and putting out an album every year, singles, etc...its not anywhere near today, where an artist doesnt tour, sometimes doesnt even have an album out, maybe they drop a few hit singles and does some press media blitz bullshit, and that is what is considered "todays hard work" for a mainstream artist. Also the playing field was widespread today its so close minded and full of AGE-ism and playlists and demographics and BS that just makes people not give a shit who is out there at this point, and in reality, you never see artists on tv shows now, they have no place out there today.
So to me Daryl knows his material it suits his voice, its a good voice still, has alot of soul to it, powerful and he knows WHAT he is doing with it. Been following his career since his days as a member of the group, "The Electric Indian". One of the best voices in music period!! "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Legendary for sure. Hall & Oates are also among the greatest songwriters.
