Love those tracks, too!
Speaking of the Doobies, Patrick Simmons' solo album had some of that same feel...

A few weeks ago when I saw Allen Hinds play, he was using a keyboard player named Mark McMillen. This guy was Bobby Caldwell's MD for many years.

Nice tunes! I can see why he was the Musical director for Bobby!
Just came across this tune, written by Bobby Caldwell, that Mark covers--actually, I like his treatment better than Bobby's original!
Mark McMillen - I Give In
BTW, I'm hoping I'll catch Allen Hinds live one day!

Cool tunes.
The Jay Graydon track swerves into something I meant to mention. And that is the effect that the "WCS" guitarists had on the genre.
Their sound was Jazz/R&B based.
Steve Lukather (Toto)...
I went through a ton of crap fuzz boxes trying to pull that off.

Ndeed!!
BTW, I love both versions of Larry Carlton's Nite Crawler--solo and with the Crusaders!
Speaking of guitar, this Brothers Johnson tune always had the epitome of that laid-back West Coast feel to me, George Johnson and Lee Ritenour..and of course, Dave Grusin's whistling keyboards, and Q's production...

I saw Allen Hinds Tuesday night with another amazing keyboard player Jeff Babko and Jimmy Johnson on bass. He told me he'll be doing something at NAMM with Buddy Ebsen's (Jed Clampett) daughter Kiki.
You've gotta get your butt to the West Coast bud!

Bringin' Jay Graydon up again, this made me realize that he played two of my favorite guitar breaks of the 70's:
Steely Dan's "Peg"
and Narada Michael Walden's track "Listen To Me" from (3:26 on...)
