Well, you gotta make up some term to distinguish "hip hop" from "shit hop" or else you're accused of "generalising" all hip hop and Lord knows, the early 80s hip hop wasn't shit hop.

As for "white washing", Beyonce is a crossover act and has been one from day one of her career. Hell, she came out at a time when damn near all so-called R&B had been "whitened down" for crossover appeal. She couldn't get funky if her life depended on it and the last time when the majority of R&B wasn't crossover was the funk era. As for Tina going the rock route, hell, that's fine. There's no rule that if you're black you have to go the R&B route. But at least she had the good sense to go a strong sounding route rather than a weak sounding one. Of course, Beyonce didn't purposely choose to go a weak route. She came out at a time when R&B was already a bunch of bullshit and had been for years so that's all she knew and didn't have the good taste to go a stronger route. If she had, she sure as hell wouldn't have become the star she is now. She would have been one of those obscure artists that you have to "search" for.

So of course people are going to make a big deal out of it not to mention this was at Obamas Inauguration (Big Historical Event).

I'm sick of the obsession with pop gossip on this site. Yea there were always some threads here and there but never to this extent.

The only bullshit excuse some give is to just simply ignore the threads but to be frank they shouldnt even be discussed here because this is not a gossip forum, this is a music forum. Its one thing if this was a TMZ type of site but it is a music site and it is ridiculous that most of the threads here are gossip threads and has nothing to do with music.

Washington (CNN) - An inaugural official who asked not to be identified told CNN Wednesday that pop star Beyoncé lip-synced her performance on Inauguration Day.

"She did not sing live," the official told CNN. A pre-recording of the artist's rendition of the National Anthem was played instead. What was heard by spectators and viewers was the sound of that recording, according to the official.

The official said Beyoncé made the decision herself the night before Inauguration Day.

Beyoncé arrived so late Sunday night she did not have time to rehearse with the U.S. Marine Band, which was asked to accompany the pop star's performance, according to the inauguration official.

"Because she didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band," the official added. "It was all Beyoncé."

The official was somewhat puzzled by Beyoncé's decision, noting when she made the pre-recording, "she was spot on."

She recorded her part separately from the band and her rendition was married with the band's music, the official said.

The taped performance should take nothing away from her skills as a live artist, the official said. "She's actually a very good live singer," the official added.

CNN has still not received comment from Beyoncé.

I know exactly what you mean when it comes to the media. I don't listen to Beyonce, shit hop, American Idol, or any other of that bullshit and I absolutely can't stand it and despise the hell out of it because of what it has done to music. And all I hear is "If you don't like it, don't listen to it". Well I don't listen to it. But even though I don't listen to it, I can't escape it and completely ignore it as if it totally didn't exist unless you went somewhere where it was appropriate.

Back in the day, if you didn't like R&B music (and you would have to have been crazy as hell to not like it back then ), you simply didn't turn on R&B radio or watch "Soul Train". If you didn't do these things back then, you would have no exposure to the artists back then and you could live as if they totally didn't exist at all. Not these days though. If you turn on the "Today" show, there they are. If you turn on the local news, there they are. If you turn on CNN, there they are. If you go to the TV Guide channel to see what's coming on TV, they're in the upper part of the screen singing. If you watch a show that has nothing to do with it, there they are on the bottom part of the screen with an advertisement banner for one of their upcoming shows. If you go to McDonald's, Wendy's, or any of the other fast food joints, their pictures printed all over the bags and on the cups. Hell, even if you come to the org which is a webside dedicated to a funk artist, there they are. They are everywhere and you can't escape them even if you want to. Since they wanted to take over R&B radio, well dammitt, they've done it. So stay their ass over on R&B radio since they've got what they wanted and stay the hell out of everywhere else.
