New SUEDE album - Bloodsports (new single "Barriers")

Suede Unveil First New Material In Ten Years

Suede

Suede have posted fresh track 'Barriers' online - their first blast of new material in ten years.

Amidst the morass of Britpop re-unions, Suede's reformation is more welcome than most. As with the rest of their career, the British group have handled the re-union with a palpable sense of style and grace lending an emotional tone to their recent shows.

Confirming plans to record new material, Brett Anderson began hinting that something new was set to be released last week. Posting on a fan forum, the singer appeared to unveil lyrics from an unreleased track.

Now Suede have broken cover. This morning (January 7th) the band granted the exclusive first play of new track 'Barriers' to 6Music before placing the song on their site as a free download.

Here's Brett Anderson: “After a year of sweating and bleeding over the record it's finally finished so we wanted to get some music out there as soon as we could. ‘Barriers’ isn't the first single but we are proud of it enough just to chuck it out there and thought that it's pulsing, romantic swell somehow summed up the feel of the album quite nicely . The album is called Bloodsports. It's about lust, it's about the chase, it's about the endless carnal game of love. It was possibly the hardest we've ever made but certainly the most satisfying. It's ten furious songs for me have reclaimed from ourselves what Suede was always about; drama, melody and noise.”

The group are working on a full studio album - watch out for more details on this shortly.

Suede have also confirmed a one off show:

March
30 London Alexandra Palace

The new Bowie has sucked all the energy I have for listening to anything else but his stuff, but I will definitely be very much excited to hear the new Suede album.

I think the song sounds too much like Brett's solo material, but I'm definately excited and will be buying the album as soon as it drops.

the new single is excellent! not necessarily a mega-classic single, but it sounds like a very strong album track

I think this is a pretty good song, i don't think it's a hit or anything, quite like the guitar riff, decent album track for me. I don't think it really sounds like the "old Suede" though. This is very "stadium rock", almost U2 or Echo and the Bunnymen.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Eh, I'll probably pick the album up eventually but I find it hard to get excited about their post Coming Up material.

eh, for me this is a fresh start (second chance) and the new single is strong, if the album is just (or nearly) as good, I'll gladly JUMP from Coming Up to Bloodsports, forgiving the sins of the 99-02 era wink

Barriers is not the first single. It is just a teaser for the new album. I am a fan of Suede since the first album and i think Barriers is quite good but it does not really blow my mind. It is quite safe and radio friendly. I miss the raw sound and energy of some of the Dog Man Star material. I also find Brett Andersons lyrics far too repetetive. Can´t he find some more interesting things to sing about than the usual topics he has explored a million times before?
