ALBUM PR:

New York, NY--January 8, 2013--In the early morning hours of Tuesday the 8th January, Iso/Columbia Records released a new single by David Bowie titled 'Where Are We Now?' exclusively launching in the iTunes Store in 119 countries. David Bowie's first new album in ten years and his 30th studio recording, THE NEXT DAY is also available as a pre-order on iTunes with a wide release scheduled for March. January the 8th is of course David Bowie's birthday, a timely moment for such a treasure to appear as if out of nowhere.

Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130 million not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration and social commentary. It goes without saying that he has sold out stadiums and broken ticket records throughout the world during this most influential of careers.

In recent years radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumor and wishful thinking ....a new record...who would have ever thought it, who'd have ever dreamed it! After all David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants...when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today he definitely has something to say.

Produced by long term collaborator Tony Visconti, 'Where Are We Now?' was written by Bowie, and was recorded in New York. The single is accompanied by a haunting video directed by Tony Oursler which harks back to David's time in Berlin. He is seen looking in on footage of the auto repair shop beneath the apartment he lived in along with stark images of the city at the time and a lyric constantly raising the question Where Are We Now?

"The moment you know, you know you know" resonates from the new single's lyric. Now we all know...David Bowie has been in the recording studio...just when we least expected it!!

Wow. You know, I'm a big Prince fan. I really enjoyed those goodies Mr. P gave us, and it brightened my day.

But this eclipses that. First new album in a decade, the Thin White Duke and leader of the Guild of Calamitous Intent in the VENTURE BROS. series is back people.

I really truely believed that when he retired, that was it from a pop master. So this coming out of the blue just made my week.

Seems like he is going to put out an art rock album. I'm expecting it to be quite mellow and show his age. I'm fine with that as "Reality" felt like such an odd "last statement" for his career as a recording artist.

I wonder how many people would have felt motivated to listen through the entire track had it not been by Bowie. It's not much of a song melody-wise. razz

David Bowie Surprises Fans with New Single, Album Announcement

David BowieDavidBowie.com

David Bowie will release a brand new studio album, ‘The Next Day,’ this March. It will be the recently reclusive rocker’s first new record since 2003′s ‘Reality.’

Bowie wasted no time this morning (Jan. 8) kicking off his 66th birthday celebration, launching a new website mere minutes after midnight ET with the announcement and the release of a video for the record’s first single, ‘Where Are We Now?’

The video for the melancholy, restrained piano-based ballad features the faces of Bowie and a woman superimposed on the heads of a pair of mannequins dressed in fur bodysuits in an artist’s loft. Near the end we get our first non-paparazzi look at the always fashion-forward rock star in years, and it seems his new sartorial statement is… jeans and a t-shirt? Who cares, Bowie’s back! Maybe it was casual Friday.

As his site explains, ‘The Next Day’ will be released on March 8 in Australia, March 12 in the U.S.A. and March 11 everywhere else. A 14-track standard edition and a 17-track deluxe version of the album are currently available for pre-order on iTunes, and you can pick up the new single there as well.

Apparently that is Bjork with him in the video???

http://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonykosner/2013/01/08/david-bowie-turns-66-releases-first-new-song-in-a-decade-album-to-follow-in-march/

It’s a sad song about defiantly facing death and memory made more poignant by the direction of installation artist Tony Oursler. Only at the end of the video do you realize that Bowie, and the silent Bjork, whose head he is sharing shoulders with, have had their faces smooshed by sheer stockings, the way bank robbers used to do. At one point Bjork licks her lips as if to begin singing with Bowie, but the song ends without her voice joining his. Their pinched and grimaced faces say a lot about age and regret.

I doubt that's Björk.

That woman has two rather big moles on her face and I don't think Björk has those.

Not sure about what that guy's writing about the stockings on their faces either. At the end of the video they walk away from the "cut out" and there's nothing covering their faces.
