Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch ~ You Gotta Believe You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I still have the album. My favorite was Super Cool Mack Daddy. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Although he was never consider "real hip-hop", Mark was more hip-house, hence why I choose to give him a pass instead of Vanilla Ice.
But that's just me of course.

If you listen to Marky Mark's albums, there's not much house. That would be more like Technotronic, Snap, or 2 Unlimited. Here's Hey DJ from 1996, (no Funky Bunch). The music video is cut, not complete. I kinda get the feeling that actor Mark is embarrased by 'Marky Mark'. His brother Donnie, who also acts, continues to tour with New Kids On The Block, and he's ok with that. The one thing about "Marky Mark" back-in-the-day that IMO set him apart from the other "white rappers" (Vanilla Ice, 3rd Bass, Snow, etc.) is that he actually looked like he could kick your ass if you stepped up to him.
I dunno if he actually COULD (were the street rumors for real?) but he sure looked it. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I think he could whup your ass. Those Wahlbergs are straight hood. He looked like he was gonna put a whupping on Eminem that time on TRL "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Scriptgirl...Monie Love could whup MY ass...!
But yeah in general, they do look hood and even today Mark looks diesel as hell. I missed whatever thing on TRL you're referring to, but yeah, he'd wipe the floor with Eminem. Ever notice how Eminem acted so tough but he only singled out people he knew wouldn't come after him? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

^^Mark has been to jail a few times. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
