According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, Adele’s 21 has overtaken Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? to become the UK’s fourth biggest selling album of all-time.

2012 has been an amazing year for Adele: The last twelve months have seen the London born singer pen the theme song to the latest James Bond film, Skyfall, and her record-breaking second album, 21, eclipse the all-time sales of Michael Jackson’s iconic albums Thriller and Bad, and overtake sales of legendary records by Pink Floyd (The Dark Side Of The Moon) and Dire Straits (Brothers In Arms) in the UK.

Now, as the year draws to a close, Adele can add another achievement to her impressive musical CV – overtaking Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? to become the UK’s fourth biggest selling album of all-time.

According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, Oasis’ 1995 second album has sold 4,555,000 copies to date, while Adele’s 21 has surged ahead with sales of over 4,562,000 copies. The news comes just over a year since 21 overtook Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black to become the UK's biggest selling album of the 21st Century.

21, which was released in January 2011, has spent 101 weeks in the Official Albums Chart Top 75, including 95 weeks in the Top 40, 76 weeks in the Top 10 and 23 weeks at Number 1. It has sold 784,000 so far this year, making it the second biggest selling album of 2012 so far (behind Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events).

The UK's Official Top 5 Biggest Selling Albums Of All-Time are as follows:

1 GREATEST HITS QUEEN 1981 5,866,000
2 SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND THE BEATLES 1967 5,059,000
3 GOLD - GREATEST HITS ABBA 1992 5,046,000
4 21 ADELE 2011 4,562,000
5 WHAT'S THE STORY MORNING GLORY OASIS 1995 4,555,000

Wow.

That's a pretty cool accomplishment on her part because WTSMG? was a behemoth.

Yeah she passed MJ around, I think, May of this year (or June? I'm not sure).

It's official then, music really has gone down the toilet, who the hell buys this MOR bland stuff?, even the likes of Macy Gray, Robbie Williams and Justin Timberlake albums from 10 years ago were far stronger. Just loook at this album sitting next to these other colossal records on that list, it just plain embarassing and wrong!

We're here, might as well get into it.

^ You're referring to 21? It's a good record. It's not like it's, I don't know, Cannibal by Ke$ha that's sitting in the Top 5.

It should be stated, no matter your personal preference, a record doesn't diminish someone's legacy so whoever is gonna go on with that, in my opinion, stupid rant, will only rant to create an argument that wasn't there. That said, I still dig Adele and that album. I listened to it for the first time after several months not listening to it a few weeks ago and it's still as great as it was when I first played it in my opinion...

lol lol Music don't tease! i'm a Beatles fan & won't give 2 damns... but other fans might try to personally kill Rihanna eek

No matter what artist. no matter if they are the next coming of Mozart meets Bob Dylan Meets Stevie Wonder plays 89 instruments, sings in 30 languages & is the most talented mofo ever.

If he sells a lot dozens of people on the org ''this just shows how much music has gone down hill, so & so artist was better here & so & so artist did this first.

I rarely agree with sales. I mean to me Thriller isn't MJ's best work. It's not even second. Like A Virgin is not Madonna's magnum opus - not even a runner-up or third. ...Baby One More Time, over 14 million, is not the greatest Britney album. I could go on and on.

I like 21 better than 19 but hey, Adele only has two so far.

THIS

People on the org keep pretending that they think records don't matter. But when it comes to artists especially MJ Or janet people are quick to bring out records.

I HAVE A DREAM!!!, That someday we live in the world... and listen to music & not have to give 2 fucks about records or how many number 1 hits osmeone has

At the end of the day, those albums from MJ, Oasis, Queen and so forth are far more Iconic and classic than "21" not trying to knock Adele (because I am a fan) but just being real. However, I am really happy for her its refreshing to see some real talent with descent music get some shine but she is slightly overrated I dont think her album is better than Thrilller or Queen. She is from the UK so it doesnt surprise me that it outsold Thriller there have been many albums that outsold Thriller in the UK before Adele. Its not really news.

Thriller is MJ's best album though (public + critic opinion).

I can't believe two hit singles has helped her sell 20+ million albums!

Like A Virgin is Madonna's best selling album in the U.S. right? Or is the Immaculate Collection? <<< Eh but that's not a studio album. Scratch that.

I wouldn't even put in my Top 5.

1. Ray Of Light

2. Like A Prayer

3. Erotica

4. True Blue

5. Bedtime Stories
