Walter Orange is doing the lead on Brick House, not Lionel.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's his group.
Not really. Lionel wasn't in the original lineup when the group was called The Mystics. When he joined, Lionel was the saxaphone player and didn't do vocals at first.

The group failed when Lionel left though. They probably never would have reached the sucess they did without him
Well, actually, they wanted him out anyway
They got tired of those dang ballads
They've stated losing Ritchie wasn't the issue, it was losing James Anthony Carmicheal, their producer, that did them in....according to them
They just don't want to admit Lionel is the reason they were big. The may say they hate those ballads, but they'd be on the streets if it weren't for them
It's not true that The Commodores got tired of Lionel's slow jams.they were desperate for a hit and Lionel gave it to kenny Rogers.also there were tensions about profit shares.Walter wanted Lionel to share his earnings from the songs he was giving to others.

Not according to this program I've seen
dang!!!...forgot the name of it
hell, i think Radioscope mention this not sure now
You sure did. You didn't even post Brick House. That is Lionel singing
lead on Fancy Dancer.
That's because it was changed. Didn't you see the "[Edited 12/28/12 11:48am]" on the OP. Brick House was originally there, not Fancy Dancer.

This is true.I just picked their most popular song with the group, but I put one with Lionel on lead.He had to sing for some people's satisfaction here and picked a song I liked with him leading.

I only looked at the video i saw posted first. I never saw Brick House posted.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
It's too bad that Lionel and the guys couldn't work something out.It would have been cool if Lionel could have stayed with the band and made solo albums occasionally.....kinda like Phil Collins and Genesis.Lionel achieved major success as a solo artist, but I think the other guys brought out a soulful side of him that wasn't there on his solo albums ("Zoom","High On Sunshine","Just To Be Close To You",etc).

U r right. I pretty sure that is all the early commodores fans would have wanted. These guys weren't just business partners but lifelong friends. I remember in an interview in 1986 William King admitted he was a little bitter at the way Lionel left but for the most part he just missed Lionel and the camraderie they used to have.

Lionel have a lot of great soulful moments on his solo albums also.it just he inorporated more 80's sound.Commodores also changed their sound after Lionel's departure.

Unfortunately not for the better and how much of it was them versus
the producers they worked with like Dennis Lambert. Much of the Nightshift
album sounded like the backdrop for a cheesy 80's flick.
Oh yes Lionel's first two solo albums were great but he started going
downhill with Dancing on the Ceiling.

Lionel Richie became the Pop Ascension's greatest anomaly
a man who was considered the greatest songwriter on the planet virtually disappeared on a dime by the time the 90s hit
Dancing On The Ceiling marked a significant drop from the quality of music he was accustomed in making..
allot of great artist's careers were destroyed by the Pop Ascension.....Lionel was just one of many.....
one of my all time favorite songs by Lionel was LOVE WILL FIND A WAY

what's odd is that, both sides began to fade out after 1986.Dancing On The Ceiling was Lionel's last "huge" album and the Commodores never had another hit after "Going To The Bank".Everyone would have benefitted from a reunion.

yeah, think around that time, Lionel was getting that butt spanked
