I thought this was about the mid 1980's rap song by Egyptian Lover or whoever it was. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I just looked it up on Youtube, and apparently there's two versions of the song I mentioned, one by a group called Sexual Harrassment and the other is by Egyptian Lover. The Egyptian Lover is the one I remember, but it seems to be a remake of the other version.

I know which song you're talking about. I Need A Freak by Sexual Harrassment. I think Egyptian Lover covered it too. Never heard of Johnny Taylor but I listened to the link of his song and it's pretty funky too. Is the whole album funky like this track?

Johnnie is the guy in my avatar photo. I guess you could say that most of the album is soul more than funk. There's a song on the album called Reaganomics that could be considered funky. the only reason that I posted this song is that you could tell that JT was listening to a lot of Prince during this time and the way that the beat is in the pocket with bass & rhythm guitar says it all....especially the sexy rhythm guitar.

Yeah, I clicked this thread definitely looking for this one:
That was my jam! Just more of the One and Only Electrifying Mojo's influence on my young musical mind.
I like the JT one too. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The Sexual Harrassment version sounded vaguely familiar (I might have heard it back then), but I heard the Egyptian Lover remake way more. So I guess that's why I remember that one. Sometimes I listen to the soul oldies station, and I'll hear a song that I thought I've never heard before, but when it gets to the chorus, I'll recognize the hook, but not the rest of the song.
