This is one of my favorite groups of all time! These ladies rock and they are rarely mentioned. I think they are pioneers. They were rock, soul, dance pop and new wave all rolled into one. One of my fave songs from them is Twist my arm. I also love Automatic! They have so many great songs. They need an Unsung episode.

I tried to like their post-Blue Thumb to no vail, I still think their 73-77 timeline was their best.

One of the BEST tunes that were handed by Stevie Wonder IMO.

:indeed: And . . . they need a RRHOF induction. They transitioned from decade to decade fairly seamlessly!

I have seen them twice in concert within the last two years. First of all, the ladies can still SANG! They also look fantastic! The first time, I got to meet them before the show. They actually take the time to take pictures with the fans and then, get this, they mail them to you! They could not have been nicer!

At nearly 67, Ruth Pointer is still going and has still got it! The first concert I saw featured her grand-daughter, Sadakko, with her and sister Anita. A year later, Anita was out because of cancer treatment (which she is fine from now - and back on tour) - the grandaughter's aunt (Ruth's daughter), Issa joined them. Apparently, the voice is inherited in the Pointer clan, as they really did sing their faces off. The concerts are great ways to recall all the hits the Pointers have had for three decades. It really is too bad about ageism in the music industry because it is ruining any sort of comeback these gals can make in this day and age of Justin B. and Taylor S.

If they are ever playing in your neck of the woods, go see them!

I have loved the Pointer Sisters since I was a child. I have all of their CD's. I wish BBR would re-issue Anita Pointer's 1987 RCA solo CD - Love For What It Is.

I liked when they were doing Andrews Sisters style singing. I guess the Manhattan Transfer took over that when the Pointers abandoned it. razz

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Sad but true. Throughout the 80's older artists were very well represented on the pop and so-called "black" Billboard charts. The tide shifted somewhere in there.

You are so right!! They did so many genres of music in different decades with such ease and yes they need to be inducted into the RRHOF!! God, I love them!! I think Contact is my fave album by them. Pound Pound Pound is the shit!!

They did many things well

Wang Dang Doodle-Rock n Roll

Fairytale-Country

That's the beauty of music back then. The sound and styles drastically change from 60s-70s-80s-90s.Take Pointer Sisters 70s and 80s and they are very different.MJ-OTW-fast forward to Dangerous in 12 year span. It's like space travel.

Love them, especially Break Out! Thanks to the excellent BBR reissue, I can finally add "Nightline" back into the album.
