TV One's "Unsung" updates January, 2013 schedule with Johnny Gill, Disco special

(December 17, 2012) Great news for SoulTrackers and other lovers of the greatest show on television, TV One's "Unsung." TV One gave more information today on the sixth season of the show that will begin on January 21, 2013. It promises to be another great season.

This time around, artists who will be Unsung'ed will include Eddie Kendricks, The Whispers, EPMD, Lou Rawls, Midnight Star, Johnny Gill and Isaac Hayes. In addition, TV One just announced that there will be an Unsung two hour special on Disco, telling the definitive tale of an American phenomenon, featuring two dozen musical performances and commentary by legendary Disco survivors Gloria Gaynor, Nile Rodgers, Thelma Houston, The Village People, KC of the Sunshine Band. As always the shows will be narrated by actor Gary Anthony Williams.

As TV One explains it, "Unsung focuses on profiling gifted musical talents who have played an important role in recent music history, but have not necessarily become household names. The featured artists have contributed significantly to popular culture and have compelling life stories, the details of which have largely remained untold."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. And we can't wait for January 21!

For Donnie " It's gon' be a Stone Cold Jam " , I and others are looking foward to them. Just a suggestion, there should be a sticky made for the season's run, should it be for each show or one continuous thread that goes on forever?

Issac Haynes unsung should be very interesting especially since I bought the lps for hot buttered soul and to be continued and enjoyed every track on both of them especially his rendition of "Running out of fools".

Issac Hayes is not Unsung. But it seems like every season they need a marquee name .

They should do one on kid Creole and the Coconuts and the proto-band they came from Dr Buzzard's original Savannah band

I never did get into mint condition. my uncle used to have their welcome to the mint factory cassette with the drum intro which was great but thats about all that I liked by them. I wanted to ask was that you username "timmyfunk" that bought the acetate of unreleased Ohio Players songs because I would really want to get a copy from you. Ive never seen these Ohio Players songs on any lp and I would love to hear it since I am such a huge Ohio Players fanatic. I am into more of the pioneers of that deep gutter funk and soul.

Nah I've been Timmy84 in this board for the longest. My name was Midnight Man in that forum.

Prince was very much influenced by Eddie Kendricks and you can hear it in the song " I cant love you anymore". I have the 8 track for people hold on and even though its been a while since Ive heard it, girl you need a change of mind and day by day are the songs that I like. you can actually hear some early Prince in the song "day by day" and I read in a Prince interview article that was posted on twitter that explained a visit throughout paisley park studios back in 1998 and they mentioned that Eddie Kendricks records was in the collection stacks of lps that Prince had which included Al Jarreau.
