The trailer for the documentary I'm Rick James

The I'm Rick James documentary trailer is on youtube, but that doesn't mean that it's ever coming out.

Identity

It will, unfortunately, languish in limbo until an indie (or major) movie picture company decides to pick up distribution for it. It's apparent the producer does not have the money to self-release a DVD.

Yeah I agree...don't hold your breath. The same goes for all of these Sly docus that were supposed to be out in 2011 that never hit the scene either.

This Rick docu does look interesting. I wish the producer would have lowered the music a little in the trailer.

Why isn't "bitch" at the end of the title?

The clip does not speak highly of the product, truth be told. Access to Tonya, Ty, Levi, Janice Delusionsickerson., E G ... and this is what you got for your advance, your frontline, your trailer - "Rick liked the ladies!" "The Stone City Band, did drugs." "If it had a pulse, Rick fucked it." "Rick ended up getting up sentenced to 8 years in prison." No greater insight than this to sing the movie praise?

There is a recent documentary on the designer Halston that was being handled with a heavy and ugly hand during initial production. Somehow the jackass who was directing/producing/narrating the film was able to get out of his own way and Halston shown through as more than just a fey cocaine addict clothing designer who brought about his own downfall as he engaged in drugs, sex and drugs and sex. The filmmaker was looking for a caricatured story of the 70s, the Studio 65 thing redux, to fill his own little tiny superficial narrative. Along the way the power of Halston's work, and accomplishments and joy, fills in the storyline to illuminate talent, magic, power, work ethic and yes, drugs, sex and drugs and sex. Along the way people like Liza Minelli sensed what this fool was up to, and with masterful nudging, kindly guided this man toward the real true deep story that we all needed to know and hear. If you can manage to get over the director, as he gets over himself ultimately and to his credit, you might enjoy this really deep movie. (A few very funny moments with Nile Rodgers.)

Oh how I hope for this kind of beautiful mistake for the Rick James documentary. I won't hold my breathe, I might just turn blue.

Would love to know what orgers think of this.
