er

I wouldn't call it weak, but I've always wondered why Bob was & is so popular with rockers & punk while his music is the exact opposite of rock: laidback. Stir it up always makes me think it's being played too slow. But maybe that's because the tropical climate... But then again, there's nothing laidback about Fela Kuti. But Bob was a better songwriter, so I guess that explains it. Reggae isn't really my thing, but you gotta respect him 4 what he did.
Could You Be Loved & Iron Lion Zion are my favorite songs of his. sun blunt

lol I know, right?! This is weak and lolly lolly? Ok. lol

No sun will shine in my day today; (no sun will shine)
The high yellow moon won't come out to play:
(that high yellow moon won't come out to play)
I said (darkness) darkness has covered my light,
(and the stage) And has changed my day into night, yeah.
Where is the love to be found? (oo-ooh-ooh)
Won't someone tell me?
'Cause my (sweet life) life must be somewhere to be found -
(must be somewhere for me)
Instead of concrete jungle (jungle!)
Where the living is harder (concrete, jungle!).

Concrete jungle (jungle!):
Man you got to do your (concrete, jungle!) best. Wo-ooh, yeah.

No chains around my feet,
But I'm not free, oh-ooh!
I know I am bound here in captivity;
I've never known happiness;
I've never known what sweet caress is -
Still, I'll be always laughing like a clown;
Won't someone help me? 'Cause I (sweet life) -
I've got to pick myself from off the ground
(must be somewhere for me), he-yeah! -
In this a concrete jungle (jungle!):
I said, what do you got for me (concrete, jungle!) now, o-oh!
Concrete jungle (la la-la!), ah, won't you let me be (concrete, jungle!), now.
Hey! Oh, now!

This is what you want...This is what you get.

To the OP, try and dig a little deeper. Personally, Like Timmy, my favourite stuff is his Wailers period from around 70 to 74 or 5. Burnin is probably in my all time top 5 albums. Their are melodys in their worthy of Mozart.Think I'll dig out Small Axe cool

Bob was a genius.

The main reason why he was so popular with the rockers & punks was because like them, he was for the oppressed and against the oppressor. Bob Marley is one of those artist in which, everybody knows his music. In order to really appreciate his music, one needs to look up the definition of Reggae and everything that goes with it. His music and philosphy were much deeper than the songs, you mentioned.

I guess shortrini has a point. Marley is probably the only true world star. When I was in Africa I didn't notice much love for Prince/Dylan/Springsteen etc.... But Bob Marley was everywhere to the point that I was getting a little tired of it. I was walking down streets hearing his music and thinking, not again! Guess I had a bit of an overdose. So that's why I can understand the OP.Just because Marley, or anyone, is a legend doesn't mean everybody has to like him.

BOB MARLEY SUCKS!

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but when you have an artist of Marley's stature and reknown you might want to do a reality check on yourself.

Weak?

If that were truely so, how could he have become such a world wide phenomena?

I've seen similar threads started here in the org about The Beatles (mostly by peeps who were not around during the late 60's).

Your opinion says more about you than it does Marley.

Maybe it would be better to say something like, "I don't get Marley" rather than "Marley's music is weak."

That is if you're not simply trolling to stir up shit, of course.

Though not my favourite reggae artist, his music was really great.

Generally speaking I would rather listen to some Buju Banton, Capleton, Sizzla, Lloyd Brown, Beres Hammond, Bushman....doesn't mean Bob Marley wasn't great though.

Without people like Marley, those people that you mentioned would not exist.

That may or may not be true, it's not like he was the only one in his genre. But I agree he was extremely influential.
