Why are all Donna Summer's 80s albums out of print I know that this was discussed upon her death but as I'm trying to collect her discography and it's impossible to get anything from the 80s including "She works hard for the money" which was a a smash.
There's about 5 of her albums from that timeframe missing. Does anyone know if there's any plans to release her material again with the rock and roll hall of fame induction?

I think,in the 90s,Polygram Records bought the rights to all of Donna's Geffen albums.I heard that later on,they sold the rights to Donna. So,it's up to Donna's estate to reissue all of those albums, which I hope they do.It's a shame that her 80s albums (especially 'The Wanderer' and the Quincy Jones-produced 'Donna Summer') remain out of print.

Well the least they could do is put them on itunes. If Donna's estate owns the rights to the albums why would they only release 2-3 albums for download and hoard the others away?

Yes, Donna's estate owns all the master recordings released under the Geffen label (The Wanderer, Donna Summer, Cats Without Claws, All Systems Go and I'm a Rainbow).
Her Geffen albums have been unavailable for almost ten years.

I was collecting her '80s discography earlier this year, and managed to find cheap CD copies of the likes of The Wanderer and All Systems Go literally days before her death. But I agree entirely that they should be reissued, some of those early '80s albums were amongst her career best. I'd especially love to see a reissue of the Quincy Jones album with "Sometimes Like Butterflies" and "Walk Hand In Hand" (both of which are rarer than hen's teeth).

I came across a 99 cent copy of the self-titled Donna Summer album (1982) at a indie shop over the summer. It was a cassette, but-- curse my luck-- it got twisted in an old player.

That would be wonderful I'm sure that there are many outtakes from that album. One of the bonus tracks could be the early version of "Protection" recorded as a vocal duet with Bruce Springsteen.

I'm glad that I bought these albums when they briefly appeared on CD in the early 90s.A few years later, they were all out of print again.

"Sometimes Like Butterflies" is already on cd, but on a fan's cd release: Mark Tara's "Different Love"

That Mark Tara cd is impossible to find anywhere.
Donna's family should just put out a box set of all her material to coinside with the rock hall induction and be done with it.

I just recently downloaded her 1982 album with Finger on the trigger & her cats without claws albums. Both are great! The one from 82 is more funky and the Cats album is more pop/rock. She was so diverse. I don't know why she was pigeonholed as a disco artist only.

Her most successful work was from the disco era however she was much more diverse. I feel she probably resented being "Queen of Disco" as she originally wanted to be a rock performer.

I have mixed feelings about Cats Without Claws. There are a few really good tracks, but much of it is uneven. This was her first official 'flop' album, failing to even reach gold status.
I do like the song "I'm Free".If it had a stronger chorus, this could have been a single.

That's true. I just spoke with him on Facebook and he said his cd is no longer available.
