Does anyone like any of his output from "The Power of Love" until he passed? No one is mentioning these albums.

Once he went "pop"......I stopped listening.

1986 (Give Me The Reason) was his first attempt at going "pop." He didn't succeed until the "best of" cd came out with "Here and Now."

Do you mean his 90s period? His best 90s album for me is I Know. Highly underrated.

I have grown to really like that album. I think what made me not like it in the beginning was that it was so inconsistent. It went from funk to dance to pop to ballads. It was just a tad all over the place. Listening to it now, I really like a lot of the material on it. "I'm Only Human" is my favorite for sure.

True. Give Me The Reason was his first bid for pop stardom, but it didn't break that big at the time. The singles from that album should've given him pop status though ("Give Me The Reason," "There's Nothing Better Than Love," "Stop To Love"). You can tell Marcus and Luther were trying to go for that pop sound over much of the production of the album.

"Here And Now" was his pop breakthrough moment though, and that was after 20 years of him being in the business (as both a solo artist, background singer, jingle singer, etc.) That must've been the mountain he was trying to climb for years.

I think it was. You could definitely tell that LV and Marcus were going for that pop market. There is not much pop about Marcus Miller.

I'll never forget when he won his frist Grammy for "Here and Now." You can tell that was something he had always wanted was a Grammy.
