Well, my S-Z CDs were stolen during a move a few years ago, and I haven't yet repurchased the U2 CDs that I had (my CDs were organized alphabetically in 4 carrying cases, and 1 was stolen). I still have one vinyl LP. I've only heard the singles on their last few albums. So based on what I've heard & what I remember, here's my list:

1. Achtung Baby

2. Joshua Tree

3. Live Under A Blood Red Sky

4. War

5. Unforgettable Fire

6. Rattle & Hum

7. Zooropa

I don't like any of them start-to-finish.. even my favorites have a couple tracks I don't like.

  1. Achtung Baby
  2. All That You Can't Leave Behind (my top 2 are very close, could change)
  3. War
  4. The Joshua Tree
  5. Boy
  6. Pop
  7. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
  8. No Line On The Horizon
  9. The Unforgettable Fire
  10. Rattle & Hum
  11. Zooropa
  12. October

4-6 are also very close for me. On Zooropa the only outstanding track imo is "Stay".. and I don't like October at all.

I only know the 80s ones so...

Boy

Unforgettable Fire

War

Joshua Tree

October

Rattle & Hum

I think they generally made a better "singles band" than "album band" prior to Joshua Tree which was right when they started to lose me.

No Line on the Horizon is a great record. It's only problem, it didn't have that big epic single (and they chose by far the worst track on the album for 1st single)

War is my favourite - it's what got me into U2, while most of my school colleagues were listing to Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree.

I've never understood the acclaim that The Unforgettable Fire gets. I dislike about half the tracks. But the ones I like are among U2's best.

War is the album that really got me big into U2 as well!

I recall listening to that album as well as The Hurting by Tears For Fears back to back for days. Listening to those 2 was like being in a fiercly cold winter.

I think Zooropa and Unforgettable Fire are mostly just really great mood albums, with 2 or 3 real classics thrown in. I see a couple of people compared No Line with UF, i can see some similarities there, but i could just never get into the first few songs on No Line, i actually really like second half of that album. Also i've always thought Rattle and Hum was really overlooked, there's some real cracking songs on that one, i can count 4 classics on that one that still get played on radio today...

We're here, might as well get into it.

When I was getting into War,it was during a cold winter in Cape Town and the music seemed to fit the season, especially New Year's Day

I try not to hold it agains the album or the band how overplayed Joshua Tree was (it was overplayed for a reason, and it's not U2's fault "With or Without You" was played every hour on the hour for two years straight on local stations.1. I like Pop a lot. I thought it was a daring record with (for them anyway) lost of experimentation.

underrated?
You must be joking. lol

Number 1 in more than 20 countries, including all major markets.
7.5 million copies sold
Critics average 7/10 or 8/10 (RS ****)

and this is all despite the fact that the album is not good (I would have said more harsh, but don`t want to offend the fans)
this album is overrated.

I can't believe the low placing everyone's giving Zooropa.

It's my fave album of theirs!!!

In my mind zooropa and Achtung Baby are linked.. like companion albums.. Could even make a double album.. & theyre clearly the greatest thing U2 ever did IMO

I like Zooropa, but it's kinda "Achtung Baby"-lite. It has some great things but overall the material is not nearly as strong as "Achtung Baby" IMHO. There are some throwaways on there. But I do like it's low-key nature - it has a charm to it, for sure. But "Achtung Baby" is a beast; every song is classic. One of the Best 2 or 3 albums of the 90s, no question. "Zooropa" just doesn't come close for me - - although I do like it.

Agree^^. Love is blindness!! Wow. And Acrobat I think those are my faves. Achtung is a pop masterpiece. Every song sounds like it could be a single.

Zooropa on the other hand is like its demented cousin, dark twisted experimental industrial etc.. some really depressing but beautiful songs which in mood and emotion I've never heard them match since. " the wanderer", "the first time" "stay" "lemon" I love those tracks and the production on the album is awesome i'd say it's their most interesting sonically to listen to

Those are my 2 favorites as well: "Acrobat" and "Love is Blindness" although like you said, every song could have been a single. It's one of those rare albums with no fat, and every song is killer.

I think they were very smart not to try and top it, and follow it up with something much more low-key and experimental. "Zooropa" was a good move. And there are some really great things on it... i LOVE "Lemon" although it took me years to "get" lol. "Stay" is a great ballad.
