Louis Jordan and The Tympany Five - Choo-Choo Ch'Boogie
This was the group's most successful recording, staying at number-one for 18 weeks on the Race Records chart (one of the early names for the R&B charts after the Harlem Hit Parade) tying it with "The Honeydripper" by Joe Liggins and His Honeydrippers (which came a year before this song) as the R&B song with the most weeks at number-one (MJB's "Be Without You" is at second place at 15 weeks). Both songs have been linked as precursors to the late 1940s R&B (or rhythm and blues) movement. | |
