Cowboys And Angels had potential, but it never really lived up to it for me. The song goes on way too long and doesn't keep me interested through the whole thing.
It kept me interested. I love long songs like that... it's like watching a short film shot in some European city under a dark sky with two lovers.
"Cowboys and Angels" is one of my favorite GM songs. He really sells it vocally; you can tell it's a personal story.

Exactly. It was actually this song that had me convinced George had more talent than was shown at the time. It blew my mind when I first heard it. It was like "wait this is the same dude who did Faith?" It blew my mind like that...
BTW Careless Whisper and A Different Corner are both considered George solo songs.
Well, yes and no. "Careless Whisper" was credited to the group here in the US (but George alone in the UK), it's featured on a Wham! album, and it's the only major hit that was co-written by Ridgeley. "A Different Corner" certainly has a stronger claim to being a solo single since it's basically a complete one-man effort.

I didn't know about the credit in the U.S. I knew it was co-written by Ridgeley and I always wondered why they didn't consider it a Wham! song. My guess is because it had a much more serious tone than the other songs. I've always wondered this.....what exactly did Andrew do?

He did a lot of promotion... and i believe his father helped manage them at one point?
Andrew did play some guitar & such. And some background vocals.... but i think he was mainly there to get girls and George wanted to be an artist.
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

They played it too much when it was released. Back then it was kinda annoying. Today I really enjoy it. Cool track.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

Pretty much. I don't think Andrew sang much background vocals on their album. You can hear him on "Everything He Wants" humming but almost every Wham! track only featured George on vocals. Andrew did provide guitar, more so than vocals. His heart wasn't really in the music, he just wanted to be a rock star. George knew Andrew would be perfect to reach his own dreams and they were friends so it was almost fate that Wham! happened.
