I think I'm more surprised that he wasn't inducted already
Nevertheless, good for Q. |

As am I with Public Enemy's induction.
It is certainly bittersweet to see Donna's name on the list.
The other nominees are very deserving, kudos to Heart, Albert King and Rush.
The blanks are starting to fill in, though KISS should get a spot someday, so we can put it to rest. If the Hall is truly one OF FAME, then they fit the bill. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Not if Deep Purple has anything to say about that. But yeah this would probably open the door for another nod for KISS since Rush is finally in it (well deserved by the way).
This is actually the best inductee list I ever seen in a while though I would've personally loved for the Marvelettes to be in. Oh well.

It was covered in Donna's thread but I'll add that Rush heads can also quit bitching that they weren't included, it's a good list of inductees this time out. I'm not familiar with Rush beyond Tom Sawyer but will quietly respect the fact that they have A TON of devotees. It's surprising to see that Q is finally getting in, my assumption was he was already there. If life blesses me to be around in six months, I'll watch the celebration show. Jeux Sans Frontiers |

Rush's strong point were their overall albums and play on rock radio. They weren't known for charted singles because no one pop really promoted the songs so they got their albums out and toured. That's how Rush influenced lots of folks. But yeah the Rush fans should be really happy lol |

When the nominees were announced I predicted Rush, P.E. and either Heart or Donna Summer would get in ... but I also expected Deep Purple, I can't believe they didn't. They were a strong 2nd in fan voting, I think negative comments they made recently may have impacted the Hall's decision.
Donna getting in is bittersweet, unfortunately it's a couple years too late. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself." |

lol Randy Newman possibly may have beaten Deep Purple in the votes. I saw a lot of people name dropping him in their ballots. So I doubt their anti-Hall of Fame comments played a factor. I mean, John Mellencamp was strongly against them but once inducted, he cried like a baby. |

Kraftwerk were what you call at the bottom of the totem pole as far as the people that were up for induction this year, but they were above the Marvelettes, Procol Harum, Meters and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in that regard as I saw people cheering for them to get in. Man!, a lot of fellow metalheads are freaking out cause Deep Purple & Kiss where not inducted this year.
They are mainly dissing the fact Public Enemy got in on the 1st year eligable.
iwould let Public Enemy in before Kiss any-day. Sure Kiss had the makeup on & did the great performance yada yada. Public Enemy stood for something, so yes 2 of the members where not perfect people, are you trying to tell me the members of Kiss where never on drugs? never abused woman? Kiss the ultimate misogynist womanizer. Point is because you dick ride Kiss so much you think they are some amazing life changing band. PE talked about lots of social issues that even most rock music was to scared to talk about, they where not talking about partying, drugs & having sex with women. If you can't respect that... than i don't think you really know what rebellious rock is all about.

If Kraftwerk did get in, I wonder if any of them would show up. This doesn't seem like the kind of thing the group cares about. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

The purpose of the RRHOF is about influences and contributions to popular and rock music in genera. If you think about it, War was not quite as influential as the Beasties to popular music.
I wouldn't be surprised if the committee looked at the fact that Eric Burdon was inducted already and he is one of the main people who helped bring War to the forefront.

I totally agree. To me, Kiss was more influential because they appeared to be more of a novelty act moreso than Public Enemy. Hell, damn-near every mc and modern rock act credits Chuck D as an influence. |

"Rebel Without A Pause" -- released 4 YEARS before "Smells Like Teen Spirit" -- could be the most influential ROCK record of the last 30 years. They made the album that (IMHO) cemented rap music's legitimacy as an art form.
As you hint, there's room for both in the Hall. I think KISS should have been in about a decade ago. But for much different reasons. They are one of the most famous bands in the world. You can't tell the story of rock in the 70's without them; that's the primary criteria for the Hall.
ALL THAT BEING SAID . . . KISS having to wait behind PE is FULLY justifiable.

I understand that but their are many artists in the RHOF that arent POP or ROCK. I thought it was mostly about artists who aided in the progression of rock and pop which is kinda the same thing you said When I listen to alot of War music, I can hear influences of pop and rock but maybe thats justme and they clearly had a major impact on alot of other genres. When I look at who has been inducted in the fame it seems that some of artists didnt have an influence on either rock or pop and primarily just a hall of genre legends or successful artists. I personally think they should change the name of the hall
The fact that Beastie got in before Public Enemy or even Donna Summer, Quincy Jones
I am learning not to take these types of things seriously because its really biased. I think that Beastie had some impact like you said but I dont think they should have gotten in before the above mentions and countless others. |

As someone who grew up with rock. I get the ''importance'' of Kiss. And hell i know a lot of there albums front to back.
But Kiss is cheese!, these mofos still only sing about partying & sex!. Honestly they are no worse than a Lil Wayne or modern rapper who people diss. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
