Ke$ha's 'Die Young' PLUMMETS from charts after Newtown Massacre

EXCLUSIVE
1217_kesha_getty_2
Ke$ha's new hit "Die Young" has fallen on deaf ears ... after radio stations around the country yanked the song from their rotation after the Newtown tragedy ... TMZ has learned.

"Die Young" clocked in at #3 on the radio playlists on Friday (the day of the shooting) ... reaching 167 million listeners nationwide, this according to Mediabase, a company that tracks radio airplay.

By Saturday , the day after the shooting ... airplay dropped by 3 million listeners ... a sign that stations were slowly pulling the song off the air.

By Monday ... "Die Young" took a huge hit on the radio ... dropping down to 148 million listeners ... a 19 million drop from what had been a pretty steady rotation before the shooting.

One music expert tells us ... a drop of this magnitude is extremely rare. The last time a song plummeted this quickly is when the Dixie Chicks were banned from country radio ... after insulting President Bush.

We reached out to Ke$ha for comment -- so far , no word back.

That's unfortunate. I like the song a lot. But yeah, airplay of that song is going to be considered insensitive at the moment. They're probably gonna have to get the second single, "C'Mon" pushed out to radio ASAP, if it isn't already. It's not quite as good as "Die Young" but oh well.

"C'mon" was serviced to stations last month, but it hasn't gained momentum. Maybe they will start spinning it.

It's a strange choice for second single, being as there are much stronger songs on the album.

This is to be expected shrug Anyway just came across something interesting:

Ke$ha
I Was FORCED To Sing
'Die Young' Lyrics
Breaking News
1218_kesha_getty
Ke$ha
has just -- shockingly -- come out and said she never wanted to sing the controversial lyrics in "Die Young" -- even though she's listed as one of the writers of the song.

TMZ broke the story ... Ke$ha's hit song has been yanked from a huge number of radio playlists since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

Ke$ha just tweeted, she understands why her song is now inappropriate, adding, "I had my very own issues with "die young" for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO."

The lyrics include this: "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young. We're gonna die young. We're gonna die young."

A bunch of people lashed out at Ke$ha on Twitter, slamming her for the song in the wake of the tragedy.

Ke$ha is listed as a co-writer of "Die Young," along with Dr. Luke and others. She does not explain why she was forced to sing those lyrics.

The tweets:

Ke$ha is known to write or co-write all her songs...very interesting that according to her she was "forced" to sing "Die Young". I'd really love to know just how much the record label controls her and other recording acts in general...considering her whole image is that of a rebellious and trashy young woman, I'm surprised she had a problem with this song.

Weird...

Cause her fans are always talking about how she is legit cause she writes all her songs & it's part of why she is not like other pop tarts.

And now she is saying she was forced to sing lyrics... i really think she is just trying to dodge more controversy.

That's her way of saying "what you hear is not what you get"... in other words, she probably never wrote or come up with a song herself. Makes you think of most of her other songs...

Why would people slam her for the song? She couldn't know this tragedy was going to happen.

You know it's that lovely time of the year when the media wants to play the blame game.

Besides the media accusing themselves of the bullshit they are indeed doing... as usual they have to start blaming music & games.

I just saw on CNN today they did a study about people who play violent video games rolleyes

Hell why don't we go old school & blame everything on Marilyn Manson shrug

I am not surprised she was FORCED TO sing those lyrics. I found them objectionable before the tragedy.

@Guns, that's why I have ignored this story. I knew this was gonna happen. This world was always full of self-destructive and destructive folks but somehow we're supposed to treat what happened at the school as a "rarity". Fuck that. rolleyes It's like Chris Rock said, "fuck the music, the movies, just say they were crazy".

Of course, with Kesha, I actually can see why she would say she was forced to sing this as I said earlier.

I think everyone knows what media does. But this shit is really starting to bother the shit out of me...

Everyday before work i got o the gym.. and CNN is shown on 4 or 5 TV stations & everyday it's about this story..

They even fucking talked about what time the kid got to school. Were he killed the teachers and how long it took.. i'm like neutral

You want to blame Video Games & Music videos? talking about that shit is the most morbid thing i have seen on Television all year long.

I'm not a fan of Kesha, but going after her is as dumb as Columbine people blaming Manson or Rammstein or whoever.

This song came out months before the shooting, Just like they tried to say Mansons Get Your Gun was a big reason for Columbine when the song came out 5 or 6 years beforehand... like they would know shit like this would happen.

Ke$ha
Bragged About Writing 'Die Young' Lyrics Before Massacre

121912_kesha_radio_int

Ke$ha is either lying now ... or was lying then ... 'cause weeks before she said she was "forced" to sing the lyrics to "Die Young," she BRAGGED about penning the song during a radio interview.

The singer appeared on 95.5 WPLJ in New York back in November -- weeks before the Newtown massacre -- and took full credit for writing the song, saying:

"I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and wrote and rewrote that song ten times."

Shocking, considering Ke$ha completely contradicted herself on Twitter yesterday after several radio stations around the country stopped playing the song in light of the Newtown tragedy. Ke$ha had written, "I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO."

The lyrics to "Die Young" include the line: "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young. We're gonna die young. We're gonna die young."

So, what's the truth? We reached out to Ke$ha -- but haven't heard back.

As for her tweets regarding "Die Young" -- those have since been deleted.

CynicKill

From what I've read Ke$ia submitted the song with different lyrics, then her co-writers, which includes the guy from fun., came up with the "die young" lyric and her producer preferred those over hers. Since she's under contract she can't refuse to do the track, so there you have "Die Young" in its current incarnation.

Most of her songs have that fuck it lets party and not give a shit what happens vibe. So Die Young is really no different.

I am sort of in shock this turned into a somewhat serious discussion considering the ratchedity of both song and singer/screamer/rapper/computer programmer.

She is so "multitalented" and she writes her own songs (unless they are being criticized). Shame her talent is so tasteless and her song bland. Maybe some of these senseless famehoowers will start making real music with substance after the tragedy of her (or that "they"-who-"forced-her) song falling from the charts... Ha!

Someone should force her to stop making baloney music.
