Donna Summer?! C'mon people. She's the inverse of rock.

[Edited 12/11/12 21:25pm]

I think Donna Summer could only be considered the opposite of rock IF she didn't have any rock songs in her music catalogue. As it is, she has enough rock songs under her belt to have a rock compilation cd released if such a thing was ever considered. Fortunately, it seems, being in the RRHOF is not about being 100% one genre: rock. Because Donna Summer was not limited to one genre is one of the reasons for her influence and achievments in the music industry. In fact, Madonna is probably more inverse to rock yet she's already in the RRHOF. Why? Because it's about more than just rock and roll music as a genre, it seems.

Absolutely correct, the Rock Hall of Fame is really the "All Music Except Classical and Country Hall of Fame". It has memorabilia from MJ, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, just about every major pop music star.

BTW, both Classical Music and Country Music each have their own Halls of Fame.

Rock and Roll is a broad term. We continue to break it out, even segregate it. Donna Summer's music has strands of DNA contained in a lot of the so-called "rock" music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors that, not just subcategories we recognize today. We're the ones who put rock and roll in different baskets. Donna Summer belongs as much as anyone else and her work is fairly considered Rock and Roll in the original context.

That's what I noticed about the criticism given to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One article even claimed the Hall of Fame "lost its roots" and I know what they mean by that and I don't agree with it because rock and roll didn't start with a guitar...

As am I with Public Enemy's induction.

It is certainly bittersweet to see Donna's name on the list.

The other nominees are very deserving, kudos to Heart, Albert King and Rush.

The blanks are starting to fill in, though KISS should get a spot someday, so we can put it to rest. If the Hall is truly one OF FAME, then they fit the bill.

Not if Deep Purple has anything to say about that. wink But yeah this would probably open the door for another nod for KISS since Rush is finally in it (well deserved by the way).

This is actually the best inductee list I ever seen in a while though I would've personally loved for the Marvelettes to be in. Oh well. smile

Its a good list, not a RUSH fan but respect them and knew they'd get it, Deep Purple doesnt deserve it, shouldnt be a discussion till alot of others are in. HEART is way overdue but i'll take it, and Ann and Nancy are going to tear this show up!! they recently did a kick ass version of Stairway to Heaven which will air on Dec 26th, but get ready, Ann is going to tear that show the fuck up and show what a VOICE is and how to sing. I still dont think KISS is getting in for a few years, i think Bon Jovi will get in before them if they can get back on the ballot again after missing 2 times getting enough votes, they are another band that has the numbers but not the critics at all.
