When the nominees were announced I predicted Rush, P.E. and either Heart or Donna Summer would get in ... but I also expected Deep Purple, I can't believe they didn't. They were a strong 2nd in fan voting, I think negative comments they made recently may have impacted the Hall's decision.
Donna getting in is bittersweet, unfortunately it's a couple years too late.
lol Randy Newman possibly may have beaten Deep Purple in the votes. I saw a lot of people name dropping him in their ballots. So I doubt their anti-Hall of Fame comments played a factor. I mean, John Mellencamp was strongly against them but once inducted, he cried like a baby.
The results from the Rock Hall's official online poll (Newman over DP? )
Rush 24.7%
Deep Purple 16.7%
Heart 12.5%
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 8.1%
Albert King 5.6%
Kraftwerk 4.81%
Public Enemy 4.77%
Donna Summer 4.65%
Procol Harum 3.6%
N.W.A 3.4%
Randy Newman 3.36%
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band 2.4%
The Meters 2.2%
The Marvelettes 1.8%
Chic 1%

He's a blues singer and guitarist. He appears in the Wattstax movie too.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
Man!, a lot of fellow metalheads are freaking out cause Deep Purple & Kiss where not inducted this year.
They are mainly dissing the fact Public Enemy got in on the 1st year eligable.
iwould let Public Enemy in before Kiss any-day. Sure Kiss had the makeup on & did the great performance yada yada. Public Enemy stood for something, so yes 2 of the members where not perfect people, are you trying to tell me the members of Kiss where never on drugs? never abused woman? Kiss the ultimate misogynist womanizer. Point is because you dick ride Kiss so much you think they are some amazing life changing band. PE talked about lots of social issues that even most rock music was to scared to talk about, they where not talking about partying, drugs & having sex with women. If you can't respect that... than i don't think you really know what rebellious rock is all about.
Not sure why they are upset about Kiss, they weren't even on the ballot.
You can pretty much expect at least one rapper/rap group and at least one female singer/female band to get in each year, the HOF will always want a diverse group of inductees. Chuck D is a friend of the HOF and his appearance at this year's induction was well received, so I knew PE would get in. Some of their memorabilia is already on display at the museum.

To me, Kiss was more influential because they appeared to be more of a novelty act moreso than Public Enemy. Hell, damn-near every mc and modern rock act credits Chuck D as an influence.
I agree. Kiss was all about the show, but the HOF cares more about the music itself.

Well damn, HOF. Don't leave us all in suspense now....What a dead giveaway.
I've mentioned this to some people, for the others who don't know ...
I've been to the Rock Hall museum twice this year, in April and August. The first time in April what I immediately looked for when I got there was a Prince display, assuming there would be at least something because he's a Class of 2004 inductee. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Prince-related in the entire museum, other than a couple reproduced pictures.
So I asked some employees what was the reason, they said Prince refused to give or loan anything to be put on display. Nothing changed when I went back in August either.

Uh 600 folks were also involved in the voting. This was just a fan poll.

Prince ain't willing to give up anything in the exhibit. I thought ya knew.

I remember seeing one of his outfits in a Hard Rock Cafe in the 1990's.

Wasn't one of his guitars on display there?
I've seen some of his stuff at Hard Rock Cafes too, I think a guitar and a piece of his purple coat from Purple Rain. All the more reason why it's odd he didn't give the HOF anything. As far as I know he's on good terms with them, he was amazing at the 2004 induction and he inducted P-Funk.
Hopefully he inducts Lenny Kravitz in a couple years, that would be incredible.

It's just a shame that Donna didn't get her full props before she passed. I know the committee at a lot of these crazy award shows are shitting in their pants.
Quincy Jones...as some posted earlier, I'm just flabbergasted that he wasn't in the Hall.

Totally off topic--but I went to a Hard Rock Cafe in the 90s that has since closed down and they had the Terminator's jacket; I remember thinking how small it was. Then, I put my hands in his handprints and mine were way bigger! I don't think Prince would go for that type of "hands on" experience!

Congrats to them all, but its so sad because Donna passed this year!!!!
I still would love to see The Marvelettes, Sonny and Cher, Rufus and Carla Thomas, Sylvia Robinson, Don Cornelius, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Joe Tex, Bill Withers, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway and so many others to name make into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The list is B.S. anyways. They should really only induct 1-2 artists a year and those who think im being stupid just imagine who they are gonna induct in 25 years once they run out of the classics. They will be forced to induct artists who weren't even that big or sucked.

KISS deserves to be in there
one of the most shocking moments occured when they performed in public for the first time w/out their makeup during the 80s......
one of the most successful acts of all time with merchandising
I had a kiss lunch pail when I was in grade school.....

they already do. there are people inducted who made 1 or 2 records. every year they will induct a rapper, most of them had 3-4 year career spans.there is no real criteria with this, for instance in sports there are certain milestones a player had to reach in order to be inducted into the hall of fame, with this rock and roll hall it seems to be based strictly on opinions.

I'm surprised he hasn't taken back the yellow guitar that's in the Smithsonian.
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
