The Isley Brothers at this point were more of a hard rock band than R&B. 3 + 3 and Live It Up can be argued as rock albums. The Heat Is On brought in more soul influences than those two did.

The Isleys were really hungry during the '70s. It was like each 1970s album from Brother, Brother, Brother on down they had something to prove. Props to Isley-Jasper-Isley for making it happen.

Yeah he made Hendrix sound tame.

I'm going 2 get that tone of his this weekend.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Good luck with that. Hendrix's tone was insane.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I have Komplete Ultra 8. Believe me..............that tone is either there or I can make it from the kit.

There was a rap song that used this. My cousin used to play it a lot, but since I wasn't into it, I don't remember what it was. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

UGK's "One Day". | |

EVERY damned lick they laid down during the T-Neck years was FILTHY. it. Funk Is It's Own Reward

That's it. Although I have the Live It Up album now, I heard One Day first and didn't know it was an Isley song until years later. I'd seen the Isley album at relatives homes long before One Day, but I hadn't heard the entire album, just certain songs. Well I heard the 1973 salsa style version of James Brown's Please Please Please before the original. I knew it sounded like Ron's voice, but I just though he was singing the hook like The Dramatics did with Snoop Dogg. lol nah... that was actually a different singer.

I've never listened to it that closely. It's a pretty good imitation. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B.
