Mercury Rev and Meshell N'whatever you call her. Oh wait, they don't have any hits. biggrin

they don't need them smile

Just like Kylie doesn't need the US and its fickle and bad taste. biggrin

ah, but there's the difference. Me'shell and Rev are not hit-driven acts. Kylie is. biggrin

And where people have some semblance of taste, she is enormously popular. biggrin

rolleyes oh good lord

Seriously, I think the US has atrocious taste. Ja Rule? Ashanti? Creed? Linkin Park? The Dixie Chicks? Shania Twain? Inexcusable. Note that a lot of great artists are bigger elsewhere than here as well, like Madonna, the Cure, Eurythmics (Annie Lennox) and Kylie for example.

When Beck first came out with "loser" i thought it would be a one hit wonder novelty song...but he had many more great singles and hits after that.

.

It seems many people thought the same thing. Radiohead were smart enough, and talented enough to know how to evolve.

so... chart success is now the measure of talent? artistic success?

that you put Kylie in the same group as Annie and the Cure, really shows just exactly how misguided your rabid obssession with her is biggrin

OK Mr. Paula Abdul, Mr. Backstreet Boys rolleyes

Chart success is not a measure of talent- certainly not in the US. However, other countries give worthy artists much more of a chance.

I CAN'T believe no one has mention Lenny Kravitz!

When LET LOVE RULE came out, I TOTALLY thought, "wow, this is great, but he's SOOO up John Lennon's ass that he'll never go anywhere. Great chameleon, but there's no future in it".

Little did I know he was also up Curtis Mayfield, Hendrix, Prince, Sly and every other black to white crossover. The man is STILL a chameleon that can't write a decent lyric to save his ass, but he's still churning that refried crap out.

AND ME'SHELL N'DEGEOCELLO just put out a fabulous awesome album with some SERIOUS style. Go watch her play live - she plays keys, bass, she's the BOMB.

Some folks may not remember, but during those early years Lenny was referred to as "Mr. Bonet" since he was married to a more famous half at that time.

Now most people don't know what even happened to Lisa Bonet, because the films she's in usually tend NOT to be major films, i.e. big budget movies. She's almost underground, and he's mainstream as mainstream can get.

i know. i wish everyone would accept the fact that Kylie is a talentless tart that's wouldn't know what to say or do if Madonna hadn't done it 2 years earlier, and she was lucky enough to get lucky with real honest-to-goodness American success twice. neutral

Actually, I was talking about the fact that 'Love At First Sight' was a hit. A fairly big one too. I imagine she'll have more here in the near future.

Whatever. You're right, I'm wrong, as always. I'll let you win. This place means a lot more to you than it does me anyway. I don't understand why you purposely try to piss me off about this.

Anything that gets to #1 on TRL is a legitimate hit in my book.

Can you guys just give it a rest? please?

I don't know why you let it piss you off. This place doesn't really mean that much to me at all. I don't know why you get so upset because someone says that someone you like sucks, when you do exactly the same thing all the time. How many times have you said that the Beatles suck? And you don't even have a reason for it.
