Prince was a genius, he no longer is. That's not opinion that's a fact!!

As for you stating Bill is no close..are you kidding?, Aagin I would urge you to check out the 1st album alone. That one album has genius stamped all over it. Again it comes dowm to how you define what 'genius' is...IMHO my opinion that P is nowhere near what I consider a 'genuis' of of today.

If you dig him that much then that's cool.

Back on topic Bill Withers is amazing, loved the fly on the wall style documentary here in the UK on him - comes across as lovely, gentle person who has and continues to battle his demons.

nod people need to sit down and listen to his complete albums (not just the singles that they hear on the radio) and they will see that there is alot of depth and soul to his music.

I wasn't aware "genius" was something that could be turned on and turned off. Who knew! lol

I'll repeat, claiming someone to be a genius has been so overused, the word itself has been reduced to insignificance. "Genius" is thrown around without rhythm or reason and put upon people just because they are popular and/or successful. Just as we sometimes assume excellence, exceptional excellence and the word genius are naturally bound together, they aren't.

Mr. Withers was a master at what he did, an excellent lyricist, songwriter, and storyteller. His songs spoke about the human condition and with integrity. Unfortunately we have another artist who's music career was stunted because industry suits wanted to reduce the man to being a "clown." Unlike other artist/musicians (past and present) he refused to sale his soul. I'm not surprised he walked away, listen to Mr. Withers music and it shows a man who's dedicated to speaking truth and unwilling to speak false, I admire him greatly. We are lucky that Mr. Withers and his peers emerged at a time in history when creativity and excellence was expected, mandatory, and may I add taken for granted. (IMHO)

This notion that there's been just one of these so called "musical genius" in the past two centuries, what rock have you been living under? Damn, the "common practice period" lasted for 400 hundred years, ~1500-1900. I guess Blues, Country, Folk, Gospel, R&B/Soul and all their respective sub genres were just a blip on the musical map uh? hmm

Rock? No rock..........I just don't use the term genius 4 every "good" artist making music.

4 my money the term genius is 4 the extremely rare individual in any particular field. The only person in music that I would call a genius is Prince. There are a few others that would get close but no cigar.
