Good point. In fact, I think they cut Vincent's second verse when Michael's singing "I'm gonna thrill ya tonight..." before bringing him back up again. The lyric sheet definitely was unedited but the album itself was. Strange. Guess they didn't have time. I heard that CBS was actually proud with the original album and wanted to put it out but Michael said "no I'm not ready yet" and re-recorded everything in ONE day, which as it turned out was the final date of recording.

The album art was probably already printed and it costs a lot of money to just trash them, so Epic just used them and then changed it for later pressings.

I've heard that Say Say Say was actually recorded before The Girl Is Mine. I'm not sure about The Man.

I read both Say Say Say and The Man were recorded a year prior to The Girl is Mine so MJ and Paul were recording hat far back. I wonder if The Girl is Mine was originally a solo track. I'm guessing Michael thought Paul would do wonders on TGIM and got him to do it.

"Say Say Say" is a pop single written and performed by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. The track was produced by George Martin for McCartney's fifth solo album, Pipes of Peace (1983). The song was recorded during production of McCartney's 1982 Tug of War album, about a year before the release of "The Girl Is Mine", the pair's first duet from Jackson's album Thriller (1982). After its release in October 1983, "Say Say Say" became Jackson's seventh top-ten hit inside a year.

I think so. There is a demo of TGIM with Michael doing both parts

I meant to say did Michael intended to release it solo or just include it as a duet later on?

I know of the demo because I've heard it for years but I still wonder if he intended it to be a duet which is what I was trying to say. lol

Well, the Paul parts wouldn't make a lot of sense as a solo song. razz

Someone mentioned Shalamar earlier. Howard Hewitt sang background on P.Y.T. and also some songs on Janet's debut album and Heart Don't Lie by LaToya. Jeffrey was in the Bad video.

George Martin & Paul

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Better than what they put on the album, in my opinion. The original version had many of those elements that I love about the soul / pop music from that era. It's a shame they felt the need to simplify it (dumb it down, really) for the album.

I love both versions.....the demo and the official release

I always thought it was awesome, plus the song reach# 1 on the r&b charts

how ironic.....considering the song is supposed to be viewed as a "pop record"

I believe the official release was the best choice considering the fact Michael and McCartney played off of each other's verses

the problem is, soul/r&b music has been marginalized over the course of time, because full cultural expression has been stifled and limited, which has stunted creativity because everything is geared towards incorporating the commercialization of hip-hop, which ironically, depends on sampling genuine r&b music to thrive

as a result,

in 1982, all urban radio stations play this song continously

if this song was released in 2012, I doubt urban radio support this record

Correction on the song that used or interpolated Rick James' Give It to Me, it wasn't Beat It, it was Thriller. neutral

Some of the arguements on where the Billie Jean bass line allegedly came from are... I dunno guesses lol I dont completely agree with them. I can hear the similiarity though in the song (possibly could be a influence dont think so though but anything is possible razz ),here is another take. In these footages MJ talks about how he made the bassline.

He starts talking about Billie Jean toward the end of this video

It captured what I was trying to say or thought I said lol

His music trascended all barriers and genres which is hardly the case for any typical pop star. One of the reasons why I love and admire him is the experimentation he did with other genres and always trying to out do his creative past ventures. His done many things that one label can not be called for it unlike most one dimensional pop stars of today. He can easily be called alot of different things in the genre world but the KOP is more fitting since he captured all of that and more with his vision, music videos and contributions to not only pop music but pop culture.

Oh and I LOVE pop music, my favorite artist is a pop star lol I just cant stand bad POP music particular the shit we have to listen to TODAY on the radio.

Like I said, the artist who drew them like that had a vivid imagination, you couldn't get away with an image like that in 2012 going on 2013. lol

I can see why they cut a video for Say Say Say though instead of The Girl is Mine. Michael himself probably thought "nah three's good enough, more than that is overdoing it" and two of them were songs of his own making though he had big input on how he wanted to make the "Thriller" video though. But the rest of the songs were good enough without a video with the exception of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'". That's the only other one I wished he made a video for... could you have imagined it?
