What exactly does the popularity of a artist mean? Alot of times when we talk about current mainstream artists we always argue that their popularity garners them certain priviledges. These priviledges can range from getting awards, getting nominations, (majority of the time things they dont deserve) etc.
We also argue that lack of popularity is a reason why alot of talented artists never get acknowledged. With that being said, what exactly is popularity, is it measurable and are there different types?
Nowadays I see alot of people throw the phrase immensely popular, world wide around to much for artists who are mostly popular in their respectful country, ex. USA.
Here on the org, people usually measure popularity with album sales, concert capacities, and awards but does that exactly showcase popularity or whether or not people are really fans? There are some people that attend concerts and are not die hard fans and sometimes not even fans. Likewise with how award shows operates, these organizations are just formulating nominations based on who is relevant not necessarily because ALOT of people like them but I guess to them if their relevant that means 80 percent of everyone are fans. Is that true? Are they right?
There are some artists that have alot of popularity that have exactly contributed to music and some that do that have contributed 0 or are just bad artists.
Is popularity a good thing or a bad thing? Does it have any meaning when it comes to how important or unimportant a artist is or does it depend on the artist?
