On Monday night, R. Kelly announced that he received an offer to bring Trapped in the Closet to Broadway. The series became a cult classic back in 2005 and recently relaunched to eager fans at the Sunshine Theater in New York City. However, the R&B king is ready to expand beyond the screen and create a version for the big stage.
"To transform it into a Broadway version, that's what I'm working on," he said to his Sunshine Theater fans, according to the Associated Press. The video series will officially debut at the IFC on Friday.
Kelly didn't go into further detail about when the Broadway version would premiere, but it's clearly in the works and the celeb is excited.
"I'm just having a lot of fun. I don't have a job so I sit in the studio all day and think of stuff to do and this is just something stupid I've done that's been successful for me," he explained of the series conception. "I'm having a lot of fun with it."
The latest chapters of the musical soap opera introduces some new characters, and of course, in true tradition, ends with a cliffhanger. The crooner claims he has an additional 85 chapters waiting in the studio, which will give him even more material to transform into a Broadway classic.
