There might be clearance problems with that. They probably would have to get permission from any guest stars or whoever is in charge of their image if deceased. There are also copyright issues for the songs performed. That's why songs are removed from TV shows when released to DVD, they ask for too much money. I have a videocassette The Best Of Eddie Murphy on SNL. I think it came out in the 1980's or early 1990s. One skit features Beatles songs, but when it was released on DVD years later, the same skit is on there, but the songs are cut. The skit doesn't really make as much sense with the songs removed. There's not many variety shows by anyone on DVD. The ones that are just have a few episodes like Donnie & Marie. Something like Ed Sullivan has more mainstream performers and is not just one act, so has a higher potential for sales to counteract any costs that have to be paid out. Even that doesn't have the entire episodes for each season, but maybe a DVD with the entire episodes with a specific act like The Beatles, Elvis, or Motown acts. Most of them are just compilations of musical acts or comedians.

He owned the songs when the VHS was released. The songs were probably more expensive on the later release. Also the Beatles themselves could have stopped it. Remember Michael & Yoko Ono (and I guess Capitol/Parlophone) allowed Nike to use Revolution in a commercial. Paul, Ringo, and George sued Nike for using their recording without permission. I don't know why Mike would veto the Eddie Murphy DVD, but continue to allow the songs to be used in commercials. But they were all re-recordings and not the versions by The Beatles. The SNL skit had the actual recordings by The Beatles. Mike had no say so over The Beatles recordings, he doesn't own their masters.

The 5th Beatle! "I Want To Hold Your Hand...Man" "Love Me Do...Man" falloff

Back on topic: They may do one of those "best of" the show like they've done with Donny and Marie and Captain and Tenille. I would be happy with that.

It wouldn't make sense to do a Best of DVD, as their was only 12 episodes made.

I doubt it. On The Monkees TV show DVD's, there's a couple of the commercials they did for Kellog's cereals, but they were one of the sponsors for the show. In some of the closing credits for the early episodes, the cereal boxes are shown. This is not on the syndicated reruns on TV. But The Monkees did a lot of commercials, and most of them are not on it. Those J5 commercials might be owned by Post Cereal and not the makers of the cartoon. Also, commercials are not always kept in shape, as there really isn't any reuse value for them. The film/video might have deteriorated. Back then, TV networks were still taping over previously filmed shows to save money. So a lot of stuff was lost that way.

Sure they can. But what if Post does own the commercials and asks for too much money? There's always legal things to releasing stuff and the commercials are not really related to the cartoon. It's not just as simple as releasing a video. There is also the case that maybe the original footage no longer exists or can't be found. The Wattstax movie reels were found by accident in unmarked boxes in a warehouse or office. They were long believed to be lost. Most of those J5 commercials on Youtube look like 10th generation videotape. razz lol

These are available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Blu-ray Dvd

http://www.amazon.com/Jac...amp;sr=1-2

Standard Dvd

http://www.amazon.com/Jac...amp;sr=1-2

Will be released on Jan. 15, 2013. The Blu-ray will have 4 discs while the standard has only 2 discs. Also as of right now, the Blu-ray set is priced cheaper than the regular dvd set hmmm

Also:

We're not positive, but we THINK the Blu-ray release will actually be a Blu/DVD Combo pack...and if that's accurate, then it would explain why the DVD release is shown at Amazon to be 2 discs, but the BD version is on 4 discs. No other details are available yet, however, and we don't have box art yet either. Stay tuned for updates, of course. Our thanks to eagle-eyed reader Michael Wagner for his note alerting us to these listings!

Maybe the other 2 disc are all the songs featured in the series.

There are four songs from the series that have never made a release.

Are they different versions, because I'm not sure what you mean by they've never been released.

Oh, I don't think I've seen the cartoon since the 1980's, when they used to re-run it on Saturday mornings.

I know a lot about Michael (though sometimes I doubt that something about him I know for sure lol ), but Jackson 5 still has a lot of unknown for me.
And this is really a cartoon was shown on the popular channels in the past and was popular?
I read something about this cartoon in the biographies of MJ, but I never saw before.

A little history. This cartoon was actually the first cartoon to feature black characters as it debuted a year before Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids. Fat Albert did have a one time special in 1969 that was the basis for the series.
