What are your fave musical performances from Arsenio?

Not sure that I have any real faves-there are some ones that stick out in my mind for odd reasons-like New Kids being on there trying to say they could really sing, Clinton playing sax, 2live crew being freaky, MC Hammer, etc.

1) The Time - I think they played "Jerk Out" and "Chocolate". They also did a cool interview and they seemed to be in good spirits.

2) MeShell - That was the episode where she sat on the couch and played "Let's Work" on the bass.

3) Heavy D - I remember he came out with a full band and killed it. I think he did a medly of his hits. (1989-90?)

4) George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars - The day after that episode I went out and bought all the Funkadelic remasters on CD. I think they did the whole show. (1993)

5) Isley Bros - Ron, Ernie and Marvin rocked that night. I think Tony Maiden (Rufus) was playing with them also. This was when Ernie was wearing that funny looking toupee.

6) Living Colour - They made fun of Arsenio and called him a "glamour boy".

7) Vanilla Ice - Anyone that saw the interview after he performed will know why it's my fave.

8) Paula Abdul - Not so much for her performance, but the interview between her and Arsenio. The rumour mill was heavy between those 2 and watching them was comical.

9) Madonna - She ripped into him bigtime. Classic.

10) Prince - 1991..He OWNED the show that night.

11) James Brown - Right after he got out of jail. He did the whole show.

Rock and Roll Honarable Mentions - KISS (1993) No makeup, no bombs, no costumes. Best TV peformance by them.

Megadeth - 1991 - Black people in the audience looking at each other like; "What in the HELL is this???!!??"

Jodeci's first appearance comes to mind instantly. It was the first time that I heard them sound good while singing live. lol

TLC first appearance for sentimental reasons...my group got to do a show with those four background singers they had at the time. shrug

Bill Clinton

Prince first appearance. I hated "Cream" then and still dont like it, but I really enjoyed "Daddy Pop".

They need another show like Arsenio on again...

Dude didn't care, he would have underground hip-hop, pop, metal, country anything on his show!~!!

They could be superstars or nobodies.. not to mention he didn't seem to care about sexual orientation either having peeps like Ru-Paul on.

Another thing i liked abotu Arsenio is he seemed more down to earth & wanted to learn more about his guests....

Where as Dave Letterman seems to wanna riddicule his guests & if they are different he like's to make it known & make fun of them for it.

His new late night show is sched to start in Sept of 2013. Let's hope, it has elements of his previous one.

The only musical performances that really stood out for me were the two times that Prince was on the show. I never cared for the most of the musical performances on his show anyway because it was during an era when a lot of the hot jams were house/dance music which sound great on a record but not when they're performed live. Like Martha Wash for instance. It was great seeing her but the song she performed didn't sound great live like it did on the record.

I like the Arsenio Hall show mainly for the guests on the couch. One of my favorite moments was when Arsenio had his crush that he fawned over all the time (Eddie Murphy) on the same show with Little Richard. Little Richard queened out and talked some cash shit on that show and they were all three sitting there talking about a phone conversation the three of them had. I can't remember exactly what was said but Arsenio and Eddie made some sort of remark about what Little Richard said on the phone and Little Richard turned the tables on them and said..."Oh honey, you don't want me to tell the audience what YOU said".....It's like he was getting ready to bust them out. lol

Another favorite moment was when one of my alltime favorites, LaWanda (Aunt Esther) Page, was sitting in the audience and Arsenio called her out. She looked at him and said...."Honey, I get paid to be ugly, what's your excuse?". falloff

Andy is a four letter word.

I can remember to this day when Mariah Carey made her debut on his show, I knew that night that girl was going to be big. She sang 'Vision of Love' and the audience went crazy for her.

I always loved the sit down interviews with Eddie Murphy and Tupac.

-Megadeth-Arsenio's show was one few places you could see Heavy Metal performers on late night tv. I loved his sit-down interviews with Dave Mustaine. Insightful, intellegent. Too bad Dave is a arch-right wing wackjob now.

As for the "Face Down" performance on the Chris Rock show, I actually love that performance. Especially at the end when they all fall "face down" on the floor. lol
