I'm interested in checking out his music but have no idea where to begin. Can anyone make a suggestion? I read up on the King of Rock N' Roll album which sounds interesting. Anyone know of it? I'm looking for his craziest, most wild shit of his recording career. Cheers!

Very cool! I'm hoping someone can help inform us both. People always say Prince was influenced by him as well....

Likewise with MJ, I always knew he was something special as soon as I heard of him, though it was in a commercial for chocolates and from Full House when he made a guest appearance. He was so witty and funny all at once....and he was hilarious at the Grammys in 88' when saying they hand out awards to anyone that comes along, made me think of what Kanye West gets flack for when he tells it like it is, and I love that about him unlike most people.

Check out Tutti Fruity, the Magic School Bus theme and Itsy Bitsy spider....I'm sure I know more but can't remember the titles right now. I think it's phenomenal how he was the first black artist to have blacks and whites in the same stadium, which was not heard of in those days, though on different floors. People give Elvis credit all the time for bringing people together, but Little Richard did this shortly before he did.

I'm a huge Little Richard fan! What can I say he is the Architect of Rock 'n' Roll, he is my favorite rock 'n' roll singer and one of my favorite artists! I love 50's rock 'n' roll and I have to say I like him best although there were way too many awesome artists of this period.

The compilation that JoeBala recommended is a great start however if you're looking for albums the perfect place to start is with his first album "Here's Little Richard." It has a lot of the classic songs (Tutti Frutti, Ready Teddy, Slippin' And Slidin', Long Tall Sally, Rip It Up, She's Got It) plus other fantastic songs, I think it's an essential rock 'n' roll album without a bad track on it!

Next you're going to want to get his second album "Little Richard" (or Little Richard Vol. 2 as I've seen it called in some websites). This has more of his classic songs like Lucille, Keep A-Knockin', Good Golly Miss Molly, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, and The Girl Can't Help It. This album is just strong overall as well without a bad track in my opinion.

Those two albums are the definitive Little Richard (and 50's rock 'n' roll) sound. If you can't get into these two albums, I think you wouldn't be interested in his other work even though there are some other good albums he made such as Little Richard Is Back (And There's A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On!) and The Rill Thing. I think his 70's output was underrated overall and has a lot of good moments. Don't make the same mistake I did though and listen to his gospel stuff though

Any original 50s Speciality recordings, his later remakes and concerts never caught that magic. He's great and he was the architect and the first one to go "Whooooohhh!!!" and to look fabulous and wear rock and roll jewels on stage (Sorry I couldn't help myself).

His flamboyance and energy was just amazing, you can tell Prince was inspired by him "Prince is me in this generation".

I think most 50's Rock 'n' Roll is underrated nowadays, but especially Little Richard. I mean many "rock" fans don't even know about Little Richard or Fats Domino or Chuck Berry. Little Richard's first two albums are classics by any standard and though his other work isn't quite as strong, some of his 70's material is pretty good. Little Richard has influenced everyone from Elvis Presley to The Beatles to James Brown to Michael Jackson, even the Purple One himself. He has such an amazing voice, he's my favorite singer of all those rock 'n' roll classics. His first two albums should be in any rock fan's music collection

I disagree. All of the rockers from the 1950s had their input (though I'd say Little Richard and Chuck Berry were most important in forming rock 'n' roll, maybe Fats Domino as well) and respect each other and love each other's music, hell Little Richard even calls Elvis his baby!

Elvis Presley was a great performer and singer and he was needed to popularize rock 'n' roll to a white audience. Artists like him, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis were true rockers who were white and were geniunely rock 'n' roll not whitewashing it like Pat Boone or Bill Haley.

That being said Little Richard will always be my favorite, but all of the true rockers from the 50's have a special quality to them that make them equal in my eyes. Elvis Presley was one of them.
