Tyrone Davis is one of the most highly acclaimed Soul/Blues singers in music history. With his distinctive gritty and soulful vocal, he scored 3 #1 US R&B hits along with numerous other appearances in the US Pop and R&B singles and album charts and recorded more than 25 albums during a career that spanned over 40 years!
Tyrone Davis spent 7 years signed to Dakaar Records, releasing 7 albums and 25 singles enjoying significant chart success until 1976 saw him find a new home on Columbia Records. In 1979 TYRONE DAVIS released his 4th effort on Columbia, IN THE MOOD with TYRONE DAVIS which went on to become one of his most successful albums gaining a top 10 spot on the US R&B Album chart while containing 2 successful singles.
Production was organized by Chicago based songwriter/producer Leo Graham who penned a string of hits for Davis including his #1 single Turning Point, released in 1975. Notable tracks include the smooth and soulful second single AIN’T NOTHING I CAN DO, and of course the title track which climbed all the way to #6 on the US R&B charts. AZTECA, formed in 1972 in Oakland, was the vision of brothers Coke and Pete Escovedo following their successful time playing along side Latin-funk trailblazers, Santana. They are widely regarded to be the first large-scale group that combined multiple musical elements centred around and built as a Latin orchestra.
Born in the legendary Bay Area of San Francisco, Pete and Coke Escovedo grew up immersed in the Latin music so prevalent on the East coast of the US. Influences of Mambo and Salsa bred their love of percussion and they organised mambo sessions to hone their vocal and percussive skills surrounded by local musicians who played in the Caribbean style that captivated their musical passion.
Sometimes numbering up to 25 members on stage, AZTECA fused an array of musical styles and instruments ranging from horns, woodwinds, guitars, drums and multiple keyboards, percussionists and vocalists.

Acid Jazz: The 25th Anniversary Box Set
Acid Jazz, the brainchild of Eddie Piller and Gilles Peterson was born in 1987 and immediately hit a chord in the UK by appealing to a cross section of serious fans from old school Jazzers, obsessive Jazz-Funkers, passionate Soulboys, sharp-dressed Mods, nodding Hip-Hoppers and even laid back Dreads.
Before long the tentacles of the Acid Jazz movement were spreading throughout the world and what began as a bedroom label between two mates soon became a mecca for various tribes who had become disenfranchised from other scenes.
From international breakthrough successes like the Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai and the Totally Wired series, Acid Jazz cemented it’s image as one of the most iconic and unique UK record labels of the last 3 decades.
Harmless Records is proud to present a beautiful collectors box set featuring:- 1 x square secure box with the Acid Jazz logo in embossed silver foil • 4 x Audio CD’s + wallets • 1 x video DVD + wallet featuring an exclusive interview with Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland plus 12 vintage Acid Jazz promotional videos • 1 x 24 page booklet featuring the Acid Jazz story with unique pictures written by Dean Rudland • 1 x 52 page booklet featuring the Acid Jazz artwork throughout the last 25 years • 1 x 7” vinyl record featuring 2 unreleased original Acid Jazz recordings exclusive to the box set Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland have compiled over 5 hours of music across several genres which scans the key periods in Acid Jazz history.

Slowhand was recorded at Olympic Studios in South West London in May 1977 and was produced by Glyn Johns. Released in November 1977, it was the most successful album of Clapton's 70s studio recordings. Slowhand features Classic Rock standards, 'Wonderful Tonight,' 'Lay Down Sally' and 'Cocaine.' It includes cover versions of songs written by some of his favorite songwriters (JJ Cale, John Martyn, Don Williams, Arthur Crudup) and original compositions by Clapton.

titles that I'd like to see remastered/reissued:
Madame X (1987)----a lost classic from 1987.Their one and only album, produced by Bernadette Cooper.
Sexual Harrassment 'I Need A Freak' (1983)---As far as I know, this underground classic has never appeared on CD before. It's long overdue.
Santana 'Borboletta' (1974)---this is Santana's best album.Frustratingly,it's his only album that hasn't been remastered yet I'd love to see BBR do a fresh,much-needed remaster. | |
