Yes, but Erykah doesn't bother me as much as the others. She is self righteous, yes, but more in terms of her eating habits than say, her morality. She knows there is no way in hell she could pull of any kid of mother superior mess

ll these neo soul chicks are hypocrites. Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu.

They're all birds.

People are different. And so are each of these women. From just this little insight into her life, Erykah Badu seems like a cool chick who keeps on engaging in interesting shit, moving forward with high intention. I'm sure the pots on the stove boil over now and again, but really, whose don't.

Erykah Badu, who also moonlights as a doula, released pics of her gorgeous daughters Puma,7, and Mars,3. She talked about her daughter Puma to BET saying: “She’s always singing and wants to act and model but it has to be something you want to do. It’s a lot of commitment. [I tell my children to] Follow your heart. Don’t let anybody infiltrate your dream, especially you. And be fearless. Give your all every time and feel the success in that.”

Erykah Badu Talks Re: Generation Music Project

The songstress is like you've never heard her before in new doc.

When she was told she’d have just four hours to write the lyrics for a song, record her vocals, and perform it that night, Erykah Badu was understandably “petrified." But working on deadline for the Re: Generation Music Project turned out to be a satisfying experience. The documentary, a fascinating look inside the creative process, follows five electronic DJs and producers, each assigned a musical genre, as they remix a piece of music and collaborate in the studio with well-known artists. Mark Ronson, a big Badu fan, says it was “like Christmas and Hanukkah rolled into one” to have her join him on a jazz piece ultimately titled “A la Modeliste” after Zigaboo Modeliste, who plays drums on the song.

“It was a big challenge. I was scared. I wanted to deliver, and I’d never put a time frame on myself before,” says Badu, noting that she normally has at least a few days to reflect on her work. “But that didn’t happen this time,” she explains. “I relaxed. I wasn’t so nit picky about what I sang or how I said it. I just let it go. It wasn’t easy, but we got through it and it was good.”

It’s not the only current collaboration for Badu, who recently teamed up with the Flaming Lips for “Now I Understand” (featuring Biz Markie and iPhone voice Siri). She’ll be heard on two tracks on the Lips’ next album, due out in April, “Babysitter’s Drunk” and a cover of Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” She’s working on songs for a solo album she plans to release later this year. In addition, Badu is touring with electronic music outfit the Cannabinoids and plans to team up with Red Hot Chili Peppersbassist Flea, Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen, and Gorillaz vocalist Damon Albarn on a project calledRocketship to the Moon, which has a sound she calls “tribal.”

Outside of music, Badu’s major passion is children—she has three of her own, ages 14, seven and two, and as a midwife in training, has helped deliver eight babies since 2001. "It’s my pleasure to be the welcoming committee,” she says, noting that she had natural births with her own kids. To honor Black History Month, she teaches them “very early on who they are, what their culture is about, and how we got to where we are right now as a race of people.”

All three are interested in music and the arts, she says, especially her seven-year-old daughter, Puma. “She’s always singing and wants to act and model.” Badu says she’ll be supportive if any of her offspring choose showbiz, “but it has to be something you want to do. It’s a lot of commitment,” she’ll tell them. “Follow your heart. Don’t let anybody infiltrate your dream, especially you. And be fearless. Give your all every time and feel the success in that.”

Erykah Badu first album was neo soul but she technically isnt really a neo soul artist anymore. Alicia Keys never was a neo soul artist and what exactly are you concluding with this? Lauryn Hill completed her debut album before her child with Rohan.

You people make it seem like these celebrities owe you something and that there not suppose to break, thats not life. Celebrities are human and I dont think there above anybody else for instance that expresses their opinion on this forum.

Just because someone does something in their private life doent mean they dont think differently about it. I honestly believe Lauryn meant every word she wrote on that album because if she didnt she would be prancing around looking like Beyonce and feeding into the media bullshit she discussed alot more on that album besides relationships

Yeah, it made her sound crazier. I have huge respect for Wyclef and what he has accomplished musically, but for some reason he is fixated on Hill when the entire industry has moved on.

Lauryn Hill Explains Why She Hasn’t Responded To Wyclef

Mon, Nov 12 2012 by Necole Bitchie | Filed Under: Celebrities

It looks as though Lauryn Hill has no time for Wyclef and his shenanigans.

Back in September, Wyclef made headlines with the release of his autobiography, titled “Purpose”. In the book, he claimed that Lauryn tricked him into believing that her first child was his baby up until the child’s birth. During promo appearances to promote the book, he also talked about Lauryn’s relationship with Rohan Marley and the demise of the Fugees while claiming that he believed Lauryn was bipolar.

Meanwhile, L Boogie has been quiet during this whole ordeal. During a recent stop in Dallas, as part of the “Life Is Good/Black Rage tour” with Nas, Lauryn subliminally addressed all the chatter surrounding Wyclef and his book, and also explained why she has chosen to take the high road. She said:

When you are on the other side of liberation, just make sure you are not late. Be careful how you judge, there is a lot of deception out there. A lot of misunderstanding out there. A lot of miscommunication out there. A lot of false information out there. And notice, out of all the people who talk talk talk, who’s the silent one. There’s a lot of chat, but me….

And you know why? Let me tell you why I don’t chat back. Because I know that my brothers and my sisters are often times pawns in a bigger scheme so when they, under pressure, attack me, I love them still. It’s called the high road. Try taking it sometimes.

I’m not going to play my hand like the suppressive system would have me play my hand. Because I know [about] the oppression that took place in Haiti, and Jamaica, and America, and Africa and Europe. So just be patient. The truth always surfaces and especially, all you black folks out there who have had black mothers who carried you through thick and thin, when the system wanted to call them crazy, just remember that…

You know I know I’m not crazy, that’s why I can use the word so freely. Crazy like a fox? Ahead of the curve. People don’t like people that’s ahead of the curve but unfortunately that’s not my problem.

Extremely well spoken. I completely understand what she is saying. It's funny how when you operate on higher frequencies than others, you get called crazy and all kinds of nonsense.

I'd pay to have many of the orgers post their personal business here for others to pick apart. They wouldn't do it and choose to hide behind an internet persona and anonymity. How brave!!

At some point in life, we all enjoy the talk about "Higher frequencies, astral plains, mothership connections, androids" and what have you. It is escapism, fun, fantasy, part of the illusion that is entertainment. At a later point, we grow out of it and recognize it for what it is. We then make decisions in order to succeed in the real world. We respect vows, provide for our children and pay our taxes. If we fail to meet our real world obligations, there are consequences. Some are immediate, some are delayed, but all have to be faced and dealt with. So those that can successfully tune in to the real world often discover that that "higher frequency" was just an empty ringing in the ears.
