New Order OR Joy Division?

There have probably been a million comparisons of the band, naturally of course cause New Order is essentially Joy Division but without Ian Curtis on vocals.

i love Joy Division, and there has been this recent uprising of JD everywhere! i see tons of kids wearing the shirts cool

Call me crazy though.... but some people who are hardcore joy fans, hate New Order cause of the mere thought they moved on without Ian.

Call me crazy, but i find New Order to be the better band eek imo.

Ian was the better singer no doubt, his voice was dark & hypnotizing, Bernard is not a good a vocalist and sometimes is even flat.

But New Order has a long, lengthy carrer... with many different types of instrumentals & song subjects.

There was some great writing within the band!, and they got to expand so much throughout there albums & experiment a lot more.

Joy had 2 great albms, but there time together was relatively short.... and NE had time to grow & grow.. till the blossomed.

But idk.. just my 2 cents.

Thought's?

biggrin i did.

But i wanted opinions on both bands to smile

Some people hold joy Division to this GOD LIKE status that i don't understand.

Definately prefer New Order, Joy Division's a bit too depressing for me.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Joy Division. Of course.

What kind of a question is this anyway.

Joy Division even though their catalouge has been bled dry but this does not mean New Order was a bust, just the sweet to Joy's sour.

Joy Division: Ian Curtis. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" alone worths my vote.

Joy Division. I never got into New Order beyond their singles.

And I agree "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is better than any New Order song I've heard.

It totally depends on my mood. Though I think Joy Division would win if I had to choose, cause Ian was just such a overwhelming character. But early NO gots some great stuff.

new order had their euphoric moments. the recordings they did with arthur baker are seminal. they also managed to absorb the british acid house revolution of the late 80s into their sound. barney is a tough cookie, he's smart and he moved with the zeitgeist of other scenes.

but joy division's music is deeper, more emotional, uncomfortable yet totally compelling. curtis' lyrics and delivery were starkly honest and personal, sometimes pleading for help, other times accepting his doom. when i hear barney's hoary old voice destroying joy division songs it makes me cringe. he reduces a classic like "love will tear us apart" to a stadium rocker for pissed-up idiots.

Joy Division.

although, i am a bit biased i haven't really given New Order a chance really. Its quite upsetting to listen to Joy Division, but they one of my favorite bands.

Joy Division. There are so many reasons for that, mostly personal, that I don't know where to begin listing them. But mostly becuz they touched me deeper than New Order did and becuz they did it earlier.

I would have loved to have had Ian Curtis with us longer, so he could have been part of the move to dance that New Order made. A few of the last JD tracks already moved into that direction, but I would have loved to have heard his voice on more dance orientated music. Also curious on how it would have affected his lyrics if he had been part of that.

New Order is always a double edged sword with me. The two JD albums I love from front to back and that was never the case with any of the NO albums. Like Sexton said; grrrrreat songs, but shaky albums.

And dayum, JD music is great to dance on, btw. Very driven music. Love it.

Just been listening back to some old Joy Division stuff, and boy Peter Hook was a great bassist, his playing really did make those songs, one of the all time great bass players imo.

We're here, might as well get into it.
