India Arie is in desperate need of press.

uh, NO she isn't. she merely spoke the truth. this isn't getting any traction in mainstream press anyway. nor will the movie have any "crossover" appeal when it comes out. if THIS is an example of media hungry celebrities whoring, i'll take it anyday over the times when its the OBVIOUS motive.

eek

not even close. imo the producers of this movie should be aggressively pummeled with the script and made to do a recasting. imo zoe (with all due respect) is just not the one.

compaired to nina simone's skin tone, zoe saldana is way light skinned.

also, india arie would be a good choice, especially in looking more like nina simone. plus she can sing.

^ THIS. Thank you! clapping

I thought about India Arie too, she can sing and would have been a better choice than Zoe... It's a shame they went with Zoe, I like her as an actress but if they have to darken her skin and shit, she wasn't right for the role to begin with!

She was asked a question about a topic and responded. There's no desperation in that.

Those pictures of Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone are offensive! The whole thing is just wrong, sad and yes, extremely offensive.

Who are the producers and directors of this mess?

I wish India Arie had made the attempt to play the role. None of us really know everything that we are called to be and do, but sometimes you have to just step out on faith when you are presented with an opportunity like that. Why turn down the chance to portray the person you claim change your life? What a shame.

I agree; the entire thing is offensive! Almost any of the other women mentioned would have been better than Zoe Saldana. No problem with her, but she is so wrong for this role that I don't even know why she would take it ($$$). Anyway, even though it's not about appearance only, it seems that SOMETHING about Nina should be obvious, her look, her voice, something. Can't see it happening with Saldana. I'm a Nina Simone fan from way back, even was blessed enough to see her live at a small club in Chicago back in the day. Again....this is just wrong!!

Melba Moore might have been a good choice too and Moore can SANG her BUTT OFF. Miss India would have been a good choice too where her vocals are so raw and pure and full of emotion. The only press Arie needs is that from a new album and this would have been the perfect opportunity for a comeback in my opinion.

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
