Wow, this is really something, I was listening to Velvet Rope after so long last night, I still feel like I can relate to this janet album the most, and since I'm almost the same age now, a lot of the things she sings about are really hitting home.

My Need is simply beautiful, I love the Diana Ross sample, I really thought it would be a single.

love the song it simple and just send a message of the need. i like the velvet rope era i think janet was simply in a place of exploration and just centering her feelings its like a neeo soul expression .

Love the way "Love Hangover" is sampled in this.

She sounds so sexy on this song. She really explored her sexuality on this album....

She truly did, but that's not why it's my favourite album, she did it in a way that was not crass when she touched on it, but mostly sang about personal feelings, insecurities and self-narratives that one could empathize with, and with such beauty. It did well but I wish it sold more during it's time too, it's aged like fine wine, and the best out of all her albums though I rank RN as her best era overall too.

This is the shit, but at a point I got tired of hearing Janet telling me how she wanted to get done on the albums following that. I'm still hoping for a good album from this chic......come on Janet WASSUP!?

thumbs up! for this post!

"My Need" is easily one of my top 10 favorite songs in her collection. It's always been a highlight on the album but, sandwiched in-between "Got Till It's Gone" and "Go Deep," the song can slide under-the-radar...

The best thing about the song is the lucious production - Jimmy and Terry put all 4 of their feet in it. The sample and bassline are both awesome.

I remember my local UAC station played the intro one day, and I almost had a heart attack. Sadly, they didn't play the entire song but it was nice to see "My Need" getting shine.

...extraordinarily opinionated...wink

The hook always reminded me too much of "you're alll... i need... to get by... " and don't really rate this tune.

I think I like Velvet Rope a lot less than you all.

yeah I also thought of that song, at the time, the mary j. blige and method man cover from 1995

I also agree it's her last great album. I liked All for You too, but it was a like-hate thing over the years though it's good again. It had a few shining moments, but is not a timeless classic like VR, it's her getting comfortable with janet. and rn's sound and taking it easy.

Though I loved it at the time and it descried my teen angst perfectly, I think I still had a thing for the janet. album and the remixed album, but overtime, I prefer Velvet Rope as an album.

She's released such good music that though I would like to hear what else she has in store, it doesn't matter to me if she never puts out another album and just acts. I'm more into other things now and appreciate what's she's put out.

I think "Velvet Rope" captured & explored who Janet really was....
