stone roses. sacred cows of british music ?

every so often there are lists of 'best albums' published in the papers and music press and without

fail here in britain the stone roses generally comes in at the top or very near the top,the popularity

of this band has always amazed me ,of course i've read and heard all the plaudits about them but

when i hear their music it sounds really cheesy, they are made out to be the messiahs of british

music but in reality they are at best a mediocre pub band.do you think the roses are the best band

of all time or do you agree with me that they are the sacred cows of british music.

Both there albums are great. I slightly prefer The Second Coming to The first album.

I would say both were in the top ten of there respective decades of British albums. I much prefer them to any of the Brit pop bands they inspired.

Also Made of Stone is a damn fine album.

They were of a generation, I guess you had to be there.

As for them being a mediocre pub band, I don't know what pubs you go to, but I have never heard a pub band play anying like Fools Gold or .. Resurrection.

when an overrated as hell band is getting increasingly forgotten as years go by (unlike U2, The Smiths, The Pixies, Nirvana, Blur, etc) you know that they weren't that good/relevant to begin with...

not bad, don't get me wrong, they were just as good as any good band of their generation and just as relevant...no more and no less

Primal Scream were also considered as the greatest thing since The Beatles and color TV and look at them now...relics

some 35-45 years old british journalists need to leave the 88-92 era behind, for real

Always thought their debut album was, although great, definately overrated, shouldn't be anywhere near "best album of all time" lists. "Second Coming" is actually better IMO, there's some cracking tunes on that one.

We're here, might as well get into it.

the first album is a classic. represents a time when britain's youth stood up against the repressive tory regime and regained their swagger. waterfall is their greatest moment.

the second coming was a coke-fuelled self indulgent mess, completely devoid of charm and subtelty.

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....
