I don't dig Bowie at all for some strange reason. He's like the anticlimax to Prince 4 me. I hate the song heroes, and want to check him out, but don't know where to start. Am I really missing out on something?

WOW, this is EXACTLY how i fee too! this thread is helping me though, i'm seeing a few recurring songs I need to check out (Heroes, Life on Mars? Gene Jenie; Panic in Detroit (if only because i'm IN detroit LOL). but apart from the ubiquitous singles on Let's Dance from the 80s, i'm uninitiated. and someone recommended Station to Station on here b4 and my ears bled!

Hum really? You know, there's no wonder David is sometimes compared to Prince... there many David Bowie eras ... The best way to be introduced to his music, IMHO is te David Bowie, the best Of", the 2-CD edition... This guy touched many genres... Psychedelic rock? "Space Oddity"... Glam Rock? "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From mars" ... Soul music? "Young Americans" ... Electro rock? "Low" ... World music? "Lodger" ... New wave? "Let's Dance"... R&B? "White Noise/Black Tie" ... Industrial and trance? "Earthling"... Many many genres... Limiting yourself to just one album, no matter how good it is, will not make you discover and appreciate the whole Bowie... "The Best of" will. If not, then David is definitly not for you lol lol

Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

I was that for years...started with his greatest hits album and now I really see he is pretty amazing. So many classics, a lot of different styles. I still have a hard time with some albums though, but when artists do albums some people don't understand, you're doing something good. lol

Exactly, his style is always interesting and slightly off. The exact opposite of, say, AC/DC where you know exactly what to expect and every song cuts right to the chase.

AC/DC is the lamest band to ever achieve superstardom, anyway

they make sound Manowar like virtuosos and Kings of Eclecticism

that's the beauty of Bowie, every album is a whole different adventure

lol lol

in a Manowar album you can find fast-metal numbers, slow/crushing blues-metal numbers, a piano ballad, a bass solo, an epic instrumental, etc

in an AC/DC album you'll find 12 mid-tempo blues/rock numbers about getting into a fight or eating puss*, not in that order, lol

But on an AC/DC album, those 12 songs will actually be good!
