Foolishly spent what money??? She received a royalty check for like $2000. She paid out of pocket what some artist have in contract to be paid for by other sources. She had a beginners deal. I also see how you conviently forget that she later sued her record company and won a settlement over the royalty rate issue.
I could see someone arguing about the first one, but the last bankruptcy was due to the fact that she couldnt finish touring. Im sure had she not gotten ill and had her insurance company paid out the policy she wouldnt have filed bankruptcy. Is she the smartest with her money??? Maybe not But youre not going to just say somneone spent all of her money when things in the record industry arent that simple.
Also just because someone wears expensive purses and has nice things, that doesnt mean their spending their money foolishly. People splurge on what they want to. How do you know they arent gifts?? Or that she doesnt have a hook up where she receoves them discounted or free?? You never know how people get stuff so dont sit back and judge.
Also filing bankruptcy doesnt mean youre 'broke' especially not with people apart of her tax bracket.

On her "Behind The Music" she said that after they screwed her over the first time with the $2000 royalty check, she sued them and got like 20 million.
Or did I misunderstand something?

Might've but remember she had attorneys so they probably had to divide it up and whatever she was left, she had to pay much of it...

I know they aren't simple: I do have some familiarity with the industry considering my husband used to work with Universal, and my previous relationships have generally been with people who have had close working relationships with what was formerly known as The Big Four. Additionally many of my closest friends are the session and touring back-up singers you see behind some of the largest names in entertainment (although said artists are a little on the older side and not the top 40 artists of today.) My own work in the fashion industry has often been dealing with A-list recording artists...artists like Braxton who used to be given to such ridiculous impulses as holding up video shoots for hours on end because the deep red wine nail color from the make-up department for her wasn't Chanel's VAMP...and refusing to shoot until Chanel's VAMP could be found somewhere within the anals of South Florida...while everyone sits around waiting for PCs track the stupid nail polish down & PAs to driving to Timbuktu and back-- entire crews are sitting, clocks are ticking, and money's being flushed down the toilet...all over a $22 bottle of polish which reads exactly the same as every other nail lacquer meant to look like the color of dried blood. Reckless decisions like this can add up in the long run, and I wouldn't doubt such actions are a contributing factor to an artist not having their money right at the end of the day.
Sure, people splurge on what they want to, no news there. And yes people do receive gifts, you are certainly right about that. But having worked on several continents in the fashion industry for two of the largest publishers in the world (Mondadori and Rizzoli), I do at least know the Italian Houses of Fashion and the decsion makers in their PR Offices well enough to know that they are not gifting Toni Braxton with anything, at least not in this stage of her career. One rather hopes for her sake that she does have generous family and friends who love lavish gifting instead of putting money out for such items herself.... considering her financial issues.
All that being said, at the end of the day, none of this is really important what we say here. However, this is a discussion forum where people give opinions based on stories of the day, so quite frankly I will give my opinion when and how I see fit as I always have here- on any topic- and if it comes off as judging according to you, then too bad for you for getting that invested in what the rest of us here know to be as mere water cooler talk. It's really not that deep of a cause to metaphorically draw arms over, and I doubt that anyone really cares that deeply about what is said here, least of all Toni Braxton. As much as you say I should not sit back and judge, perhaps you might want to consider lightening up.
