Artist's You Love But Hate The Singers Voice?

I think one of the bigest for me is The Smashing Pumpkins, i think Billy Corgan(Especially in the 90's) Was a fantastic songwriter & i think his songs are poetry.

But his voice is horrible imo, like his voice is just not easy on the ears & it has gotten even more rough with age eek

Another is Dave Mustain from Megadeth, i think he is one of the best guitar players around & i like his songwriting.

But when he sings it sounds like mickey mouse being violated by minnie sad poor mickey.

And Kanye lol

What are some you guys & gals can think of?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

That's a tough one, generally if i hate a person's voice it's enough to put me off their music. Although i don't hate his voice, Michael Stipe of REM can get a little annoying at times.

We're here, might as well get into it.

this thread was created specifically for this name .... - Bob Dylan. yes
Although "hate" is a bit too radical, if you hate his voice hardly other advantages may offset this disadvantage.
but the choice is obvious: one of the best songwriters ever with strong discography, but one of the weakest voices in the music industry.

but I can give examples of individual songs (and even albums), in which voices of artists that I like, so annoying sound that I want to give a good slap. lol

I love RADIOHEAD but Thom Yorke's voice gets on my nerves sometimes. Though sometimes it can sound absolutely incredible!

Fishbone. I love to watch them perform, but whenever Angelo starts singing... They have all of these great arrangements with horns and tempo changes, and layers, and it is all lost with no melody from Angelo.

Man fishbone is one of my favorite and i love everything about them:P even Angelos voice.

But we can agree to disagree wink , since Angelo & the chili peppers are good friend's & played together for years.

And hell Fishbone has beenb labelled the ''black'' Chili peppers or chili peppers the ''white'' Fishbone. But anywho...

Angelo & Kiedis have the same type of vocal style & while i think Angelo has a stronger voice, it's the same style Anthony has & some people really hate the way Kiedis sings lol

This.

LiLi mentioned Bob Dylan earlier, thats a perfect example. Mr.Dylan's voice doesn't resonate with me in any shape or form, and thats quite an obstacle for me to listen to an artist's music, because if I feel that the vocals don't appeal to me, or even have that acquired taste factor for me to get into much later in the least, I keep it moving.

Granted, there are many artists who delivered his songs better and more effectively than him and I'm content with their renditions of his music IMO.

er

I KNEW someone was gonna mention poor Bob, but he is actually a much better singer than people give him credit for. Just listen to When He Returns on the Slow Train Coming. I admit these days he is growling rather than singing, but even that fits the mood on Tempest so well.
My answer is Oasis! I didn't like Wonderwall at all until I heared Carleen Anderson sing it.

Diana Ross. I don't consider her voice in the least bit beautiful nor do I find it bad in a quirky way, I just find her tone grating period, but with that said, I could never deny the beauty of her music, both as a solo artist and with The Supremes, so yes I can easily get past the voice if the music is good on some occasions.

I love Fishbone also, and your connection with the Chili Peppers is spot on. But I think that the Chili Peppers learned early on that Kiedis has a limited range of about 5 notes. No kidding, grab a guitar play almost any song of their and you will not change positions. It works for them, because they are a 3 piece band. Fishbone is like the P-Funk Allstars and they don't write songs, they write movements. They have a rhythm section, horn section, solos, 3 part harmonies, and a dude beating on random objects. Sit down with a guitar and try to figure them out and you will be working through lunch and will need a manicure. On second thought, I take back my original post. I am jamming "Cholly" at this moment. Who else could have pulled that song off?

I didn't feel strongly about her voice, just indifferent. Until I listened to that BBC documentary, it was one of the producers of Motown, either Barrett Strong or Eddie Holland, they said her tone sounds like it was "shedding a tear". It didn't exactly make me love her voice more, but sure put a perspective later whenever I listened to her music.

And I agree, I think her producers/writers gave her the lion share as far as materials are concerned.
